Chennai Super Kings paceman Deepak Chahar juggled the short and length balls in his opening spell against Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2019 final in Hyderabad on Sunday.

The first over, where he mostly kept the deliveries short, proved economical as he conceded only two runs against the masters of the pull shot — Rohit Sharma and Quinton de Kock.

As soon as Chahar started delivering the length balls in his second, de Kock took him on. The South African smashed him for three sixes to pick 20 runs in six balls.

First six: A length ball outside off; de Kock goes across and smashes.

Second six: A moving delivery on a good length; de Kock slices it over deep backward point.

Third six: Slightly short offering a lot of bounce; de Kock has a go over the deep extra cover region.

CSK skipper M.S. Dhoni thought smart and rested his go-to pacer in the third and the fourth over. He introduced off-spinner Harbhajan Singh in the fourth over and threw the ball at Shardul Thakur for the fifth, before bringing Chahar back for the last PowerPlay over; this time, from the other end.

Chahar unleashed the magic delivery — the knuckle ball — on Rohit. The 119.8 kmph slower caught the MI skipper by surprise. The delivery had minor revolutions.

Rohit failed to gauge the intensity of the ball and edged it to Dhoni behind the stumps. He lost control as the bottom-hand went off the bat.

The dismissal fired up the pacer as he returned with a wicket-maiden — his second maiden over of the season.
