Kings XI Punjab has decided to trade off Ravichandran Ashwin to Delhi Capitals, the franchise’s co-owner, Ness Wadia, said on Thursday.
As per the deal, the Punjab franchise will be trading Ashwin with another spinner, Jagadeesha Suchith, and will also get a sum of Rs 1.5 crore. “It was a pleasure working with Ashwin. We enjoyed our time with him and I wish him all the best,” Wadia told Sportstar .
With this, Ashwin is expected to be paid around Rs 7.6 crore - his auction value - by Delhi Capitals.
“All the parties are happy. We wanted to get a spinner on board and we are happy to have Suchith with us,” Wadia said.
A left-arm spinner and handy lower-order bat for Karnataka, Suchith made it to the State team in the 2014-15 season and has so far featured in 13 first-class and 17 List A games.
The 25-year-old went to Delhi Capitals in the last IPL, has featured in 44 T20s.
On Wednesday, the franchise co-owner said that it was negotiating with a few franchises about Ashwin. “We are in discussion with various teams,” he had said.
While the papers have been sent to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), a final approval is yet to come.
“Ashwin was an integral part of the team but now, we have to regroup ahead of a new season,” Wadia said, making it clear that no decision has been taken on the appointment of a new captain.
