Delhi Capitals' South African recruit, Colin Ingram, praised his team-mate Rishabh Pant for helping the side defeat Mumbai Indians in an Indian Premier League (IPL) fixture on Sunday.

Pant played a breezy knock of 78 in 27 deliveries to help Delhi put up a mammoth 213-6, which eventually helped the side clinch its first victory of the season.

“Look, last year I watched him (Pant) from the couch and he seemed in similar form. It is a great sign for us that he is in good form, because he is match-winner on his day and we saw that (even today),” Ingram said in the post-match media interaction.

After losing opener Prithvi Shaw early, Ingram and Shikhar Dhawan laid the foundation of a big total with a 83-run stand for the third wicket. So what did the two discuss in the middle?

“Losing wickets early is not ideal in T20 cricket, so that partnership (with Dhawan) was vital at that time. I have only been here for a couple of days and it’s good to build relations quickly," he said.

"With that partnership with Shikhar, we got to know each other quickly. That set the base for our innings to explode,” Ingram said.

Ahead of the match, Delhi's bowling department was bolstered with the inclusion of Kagiso Rabada.

The young South Africa pacer, who had joined the team on the early hours of Saturday, made himself available for the first game itself and scalped a couple of wickets. "The young guys are too professional.

They seem to be doing it week in and week out internationally. He bowled a couple of balls at the nets yesterday and said he was ready to go. It is really exciting that he is fit and is bowling well," Ingram said.

After starting its campaign on a winning note, Delhi Capitals will take on Chennai Super Kings at the Feroz Shah Kotla on Tuesday.
