GL v DD Star Wars: Suresh Raina v Mohammed Shami

While both teams will miss key players — Brendon McCullum for Gujarat, Kagiso Rabada, Chris Morris, and Angelo Mathews for Delhi — fans may still seek a few rousing one-on-one tussles. Like, the one between Gujarat skipper Suresh Raina and Delhi's Mohammed Shami.

Gujarat Lions and Delhi Daredevils have reached a dead end as far as the way ahead in the ongoing IPL is concerned. Win or lose, it's all the same now. Or, is it? For they can regroup and reprise the best of their winning ways, ride a crest, and end on a high, even if with a sigh — as nothing can match the high of advancing towards, and winning, the ultimate prize.

There's no doubting Raina's stock in T20s, especially in the IPL, courtesy his heft of runs. Even in this season, for now, he's the third prolific run-scorer overall, and the most prolific in his team. Shami, on the other hand, hasn't quite impressed, but then, he's only had five games to play. Heading the attack and bowling mostly upfront, he'll undoubtedly try get Raina early — his team will want him to, at least.

How will he try do it? Pitch it short and let it snort? Let it drift and prompt a nick? Or, get his wrist engineer a deceit?

And how will Raina respond? Step out and hit out? Or, stay wise and improvise? One has to wait and watch.
