Sunrisers Hyderabad has picked Alex Hales as the replacement for David Warner, who has been handed a 12 months ban by Cricket Australia over his role in a ball-tampering incident.
"The opening batsman was bought for his base price of INR 1 crore from the Registered and Available Player Pool (RAPP) list," said a release from the Board of Control for Cricket in India.
The attacking batsman is the first and only England player till date to score a T20I century. He is also the top-ranked English player and the only one to feature in the top-10 list of the ICC T20I rankings.
Warner, the former Sunrisers captain, has been charged by Cricket Australia for his involvement in the ball-tampering scandal during the Cape Town Test.
In a tearful apology on Saturday, Warner said he had resigned himself to the fact that he may not play for Australia again.
The Sunrisers has named New Zealand's Kane Williamson as its skipper after Warner stepped down. The Australian opener, along with former captain Steve Smith, was later barred from playing in this year's IPL.
The Hyderabad-based franchise and winners of the title in 2016 -- host Rajasthan Royals in its opening match on April 9, two days after the tournament starts.
