Hyderabad will be hosting the final of the Indian Premier League on May 12 for the second time in the space of three years and the top brass are doing all they can to ensure that the Hyderabad Cricket Association lives up to the reputation of producing one of the best wickets in India itself.
Former England cricketer-turned-commentator, Kevin Petersen, says that Rajiv Gandhi Stadium is the best in India for many reasons.
When David Warner walked across at the end of his last match for Sunrisers Hyderabad this season on April 29 to pose for a photograph with the groundstaff , in the presence of chief curator Y.L. Chandrasekhar, he expressed his “gratitude for producing the best wicket”. To their delight, Warner even posted the picture on Instagram to express his thanks too.
It may be mentioned here that the ‘best curator’ award was given twice to HCA curator Chandrasekhar and he is determined to win the award again this year too.
With BCCI chairman of curators Daljit Singh personally monitoring the pitch preparations, the staff is on the job to ensure that the final will be played on a pitch that will be remembered for a long time.
“We will work under the guidance of Daljit Sir and we are confident of living up to the expectations,” says curator Chandrasekhar.
The groundstaff often had to ward of adversity on personal front as there was delay not so long ago in clearing their long-pending dues. They even staged a dharna to get them cleared.
So when groundstaff like Mallesh Krishna, Ranjit, Srinu, Fayeem coordinate and work together with the curator, the officials are naturally optimistic of producing a wicket befitting an IPL final.
