Alzarri Joseph picked up six wickets against Sunrisers Hyderabad on his IPL debut for Mumbai Indians.

Alzarri Joseph made a dream debut in the Indian Premier League with figures of 6 for 12 in 3.4 overs — the best IPL figures by a bowler — as Mumbai Indians registered a 40-run win over Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Uppal on Saturday. Sohail Tanvir's six for 14 was the best figure in the IPL for more than 10 years.

"It is a dream. I could not have asked for a better start. I just backed my plans and it worked," Joseph said after being adjudged man-of-the-match.

"My plan was to keep it simple and back myself. I know we had a game to win and I was focused on that. The boys are playing well and putting in a lot of hard work. The coaches are also helping us with their inputs," he added.

The Mumbai franchise roped in the West Indies pacer Alzarri Joseph as a replacement for an injured Adam Milne.

Having featured in nine Tests and 16 ODIs for West Indies, the 22-year-old has picked up 25 Test wickets and 24 ODI wickets, and was in exceptional form in the Test series against England where he picked 10 wickets in three matches.

West Indies paceman  Alzarri Joseph  came out to bat on the third day of the second Test against  England  in Antigua, despite the death of his mother.

Earlier this year, Joseph was given an ovation by the crowd and England players, wearing black armbands as a mark of respect, when he came to the wicket just hours after losing his mother Sharon Joseph.
