Royals Challengers Bangalore has roped in South Africa pacer ace Dale Steyn as a replacement for Nathan Coulter-Nile.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has given permission to the franchise to field Steyn in place of Coulter-Nile, board officials confirmed to Sportstar .
Steyn is making a return to the IPL after three years, and last played for Gujarat Lions in 2016, turning out in just one match. The South African has played 28 matches for RCB between 2008 and 2010, picking up 27 wickets.
The pacer had pulled out of IPL 2017 auction as he recovered from a career-threatening shoulder injury and subsequently went unsold in the 2018 and 2019 auctions.
Coulter-Nile missed the first few weeks of IPL 2019 because of international commitments with the Australian team, which took on Pakistan in a One-Day International series in the UAE.
The Royal Challengers Bangalore, which has struggled in the bowling department, will hope Steyn's presence is a boost.
On Thursday, Steyn had put up a picture of his India visa on Instagram, hinting that he was IPL-bound.
