IPL 2019: From De Villiers' 82 to Shami's 53

Published : Apr 25, 2019 01:03 IST

De Villiers scored 25 off his first 25 balls. But when he exploded, with his usual, casual brilliance, Punjab seemed incapable of responding. The former South African captain hammered seven sixes to rack up an unbeaten 82 off 44 balls, helping RCB to its fourth win this IPL.

Mohammed Shami was the most expensive Kings XI Punjab bowler on the night, conceding 53 from his four overs for the lone wicket of Kohli. Shami was at the receiving end of AB De Villiers' wrath in the 19th over when the Protean hammered three successive sixes of his bowling.

Parthiv Patel got RCB's innings off to a flying start despite the early dismissal of Virat Kohli. The diminutive keeper-batsman struck two sixes and seven fours to power Bangalore past the 50-run mark in the Powerplay before falling to Murugan Ashwin in the seventh over.

Wicketkeeper-batsman Nicholas Pooran celebrated his inclusion in West Indies' 15-man World Cup squad with a quickfire 46 off 28 balls against the Royal Challengers Bangalore. Pooran smacked five sixes and a four during his whirlwind knock including three maximums off one Washington Sundar over. Pooran and David Miller's 48-ball 68-run stand brought Punjab back into the match but to no avail.

Umesh Yadav topped the bowling chart for RCB, snapping up three for 36 after a burgeoning stand between Nicholas Pooran and David Miller had threatened to take the match away from Bangalore.
