No matter what colours he dons, Sourav Ganguly, the Prince of Kolkata, is a heartthrob of fans in the city.

So it was no real surprise when the big screen flashed Ganguly, the Cricket Association of Bengal president and a former Kolkata Knight Riders captain, sitting in the Delhi Capitals dugout in a blue-and-red jersey, the Eden Gardens cheered in unison. They did not mind seeing Ganguly in the rival camp during an Indian Premier League match!

On being part of the rival camp, Ganguly, who is facing allegations of conflict of interest, said, “I have really never thought about it.”

He also dismissed speculation that he had a say in the pitch preparation. “It's a good pitch and has been (like that) for last three years. It was relaid three years ago and has been a different wicket and has been good for T20 cricket.

"That's what people come here for; to watch good T20 cricket. You go to Mumbai, you go to Bangalore, Punjab and runs are put up on the board. It's fair for everyone and over the years we have tried to do that.”
