Ahead of the IPL 2019 Qualifier II clash against Chennai Super Kings on Friday, Delhi Capitals coach Ricky Ponting praised skipper Shreyas Iyer, who took over the reins from Gautam Gambhir last year.
Participating in the tournament as Delhi Daredevils since 2008, the franchise had entered the final four only thrice.
It made the playoffs for the first time in seven years, this time as Capitals.
“Iyer did a good job as the successor to Gautam Gambhir last year. He had previous experience of being a captain for India A, Mumbai and Delhi and has matured as a captain this year in the IPL. He has become more comfortable in his role this year and we try to make his work easy by supporting him in every manner,” Ponting told Star Sports 1 Hindi .

The Capitals won nine of its 14 league games to progress to the playoffs.
South Africa pacer Kagiso Rabada has been the highest wicket-taker (25) for the franchise. Among the batters, World Cup-bound Shikhar Dhawan topped the charts with 521 runs.
The franchise underwent a complete revamp before the ongoing edition of the league. JSW entered into a joint venture with GMR which led to the change of name and the new jersey.
They chose to retain Iyer as captain.
