IPL 2019: All-round Punjab edges past Hyderabad

KL Rahul (71*) and Mayank Agarwal (55) struck fifties during a 114-run second wicket stand which nipped Sunrisers' hopes in the bud. The Karnataka duo hit 10 boundaries and four sixes between them as Punjab chased down the total with six wickets to spare.

Sandeep Sharma's last over ignited hopes of a Sunrisers comeback. Bowling the 18th over, Sandeep snared the wickets of Mayank Agarwal and David Miller off the first and last deliveries. Agarwal was caught at the mid-wicket after scoring a fine half-century while Miller holed out cheaply. The twin strikes helped Sunrisers take the match into the last over.

David Warner played an unfashionably slow innings, albeit his unbeaten 62-ball 70 including six boundaries and a six helped Sunrisers Hyderabad to a fighting total of 150. This was also Warner's slowest fifty (49 balls) in the IPL.

Deepak Hooda entertained the local crowd with a slew of big hits in the last over. The dynamic right-handed batsman hammered 14 off Shami's last three deliveries, the first being boundaries and the last, a towering maximum over long-off. Shami had conceded just one off his first three deliveries but the onslaught from Hooda was enough to put a dent to the experienced seamer's numbers.

Ravichandran Ashwin returned figures of one for 30 as Punjab restricted Hyderabad to 150. Ashwin got rid of Vijay Shankar with a carrom ball. Shankar tried to employ the cut shot but ended up getting an edge to keeper KL Rahul.
