Malinga's last ball handed Mumbai Indians a record fourth IPL title.

Mumbai Indians seamer Lasith Malinga went from zero to hero in a matter of just six deliveries after his nerve-wracking last over helped Mumbai clinch a record fourth title at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium in Hyderabad on Sunday.

With nine to defend off six deliveries, Malinga who had leaked 42 in his first three overs, got Shardul Thakur out lbw with a slow off-cutter to deny Chennai Super Kings a win.

Malinga, bowling the 16th over, had been taken for 20 by a marauding Shane Watson and Dwayne Bravo. Bravo had launched a Malinga yorker for six before the Aussie right-hander plundered three back-to-back boundaries to bring the equation down to 42 off 24, which at the time had looked achievable.

But Malinga, the highest wicket-taker in the tournament history with 170 wickets, proved that his experience was worth its weight in gold.
