Hardik Pandya's 16-ball 37 took Mumbai Indians past the finishing line with an over to spare. The all-rounder struck five boundaries and two sixes during his whirlwind innings, effectively ending RCB's hopes of making it to the playoffs.
Yuzvendra Chahal and Moeen Ali pegged back Mumbai's chase, picking up four wickets between them for 45 runs. The duo, however, found little support with four other bowlers conceding more than 10 runs an over.
Rohit Sharma and Quinton de Kock got Mumbai's chase off to a flying start, adding 70 for the opening wicket. Moeen Ali snapped up both openers in quick succession, cleaning up Rohit for a 19-ball 28 before trapping de Kock in front for a 26-ball 40.
De Villiers and Moeen Ali put on a 95-run third-wicket partnership for RCB after twin strikes at the top of the order left Bangalore struggling at 49/2.
AB De Villiers smacked a 51-ball 75 to power RCB to 171/7 at the end of 20 overs. He hammered four sixes and six fours and was eventually run out by Kieron Pollard.
