Manish Pandey leads the SRH chase.

Mumbai beat Hyderabad by 42 runs, end a disappointing campaign on a winning note. 11 runs came off the final over. SRH finish on 193/8. They gave a good fight. SRH stand-in skipper remained unbeaten on 69. For MI, Bumrah, Coulter-Nile and Neesham took two wickets each. MI have been eliminated from the playoff race, first time since 2018. That would be all from our side. Thanks for joining us tonight.

SRH 182/8 in 19 overs: Coulter-Nile to Saha. OUT! Smacked back and NCN holds onto it! The ball hits Coulter-Nile's arm and jumps up. He has all the time to safely pouch it after that.  Wriddhiman Saha c & b Coulter-Nile 2 (5b)

SRH 179/7 in 18 overs: Bumrah to Rashid. OUT! Slower-one outside off and Rashid tosses it straight back to Bumrah.  Saha in at No.9! Rashid Khan c & b Bumrah 9 (5b 2x4)

SRH needs 60 in three overs

SRH 176/6 in 17 overs: NCN to Holder. OUT! In the line and Holder simply has to go. Heaves it but that's not enough. Another one falls to long-on off the bottom-edge as Boult holds onto it. Rashid's the new man. NCN goes short and Rashid brings out his trademark whip over point for four before drilling one through long-on for another boundary.  Holder c Boult b Coulter-Nile 1(2)

SRH 166/5 in 16 overs: Bumrah to Garg. OUT! Slower ball deceives him.
Loses shape and lobs it straight up. Hardik completes the catch at long-on. Half-century for the skipper. Pandey slams a beautiful drive through cover as Bumrah offers him width.  SRH needs 70 in 24 balls.

Bumrah returns.

SRH 156/4 in 15 overs: Crunch from Pandey! A hint short from Pandey and he wallops it handsomely over mid-wicket for six. He whips another down the ground and finds the fence. SRH needs 80 in 30 balls.

NCN replaces Chawla

SRH 142/4 in 14 overs: Boult cramps Pandey and Garg as he attacks the stumps from over the wicket. They continue to tread in singles and finds four runs. The chase is well out of their grasps.  SRH needs 94 in 36.

Boult returns

SRH 138/4 in 13 overs: Garg finds the fence with a fierce square cut. Chawla tightens his line and runs trickle in singles. SRH needs 98 in 42 balls.

SRH 127/4 in 12 overs: SRH is maintaining the tempo of the chase with some big overs. Pandey swivels and pulls Neesham for a flat six over fine leg. A couple of boundaries too follow and 16 runs come off it.

SRH 111/4 in 11 overs: Chawla cramps the batters for room. They nudge about the inner-circle to rotate strike. Seven from the over.

SRH 104/4 in 10 overs: Neesham to Samad. OUT! It's Pollard again at long-on! Neesham's on a Hat-trick! Picked up Abhishek last ball last over and now Samad as he flails while slogging to the deep.  Garg's on strike as Neesham fires one into the pads and goes up in loud appeal that's denied by the umpire. Hattrick missed and rightly so as the ball misses the wickets by a fine margin.  Abdul Samad c Pollard b Neesham 2(3)

SRH 100/3 in 9 overs: Chawla to Nabi. OUT! Straight to Pollard at long-on! Floats the ball and Nabi mistimes the slog. Chawla has his 263rd T20 wicket, he overtakes Mishra to become India's top wicket-taker in the format.

Chawla is back

SRH 96/2 in 8 overs: Well, well. Sunrisers are pushing for a big one here. Krunal bowls a near beamer to Pandey who slams it over mid-wicket for six. No-ball given and Pandey drills it through extra cover for four off the free-hit.

Krunal replaces Boult

SRH 79/2 in 7 overs: Neesham to Abhishek. OUT! High up in the air and Coulter-Nile holds onto it at mid-wicket.  Abhishek Sharma c Coulter-Nile b Neesham 33 (16b 4x4 1x6)

Neesham into the attack. Right, we still have a game to finish.

SRH 70/1 in 6 overs: Boult to Roy! Top-edge and Krunal holds onto it at fine leg. Right when MI was supposed to bowl them out, they've picked their first wicket. Pandey gets a single and MI are out of the playoffs race!

Jason Roy c KH Pandya b Boult 34 (21b 6x4)

All but over for MI.

SRH 60/0 in 5 overs: Brilliant from Abhishek as he toys with the field to send NCN on his way. Three boundaries in the over and an exit's in the offing for Mumbai.

Coulter-Nile into the attack

SRH 46/0 in 4 overs: Roy's in scorching touch! Bumrah's bouncer slides down leg, five wides! Roy slams him next up to the mid-wicket boundary for another over. Bumrah rolls in a slower one to Abhishek who lobs it straight up but misses the reach of the mid-on fielder.

Bumrah continues

SRH 31/0 in 3 overs: 16 from the over!  Roy slams Chawla through extra cover off the short ball for four and drags one to the square leg fence. Abhishek makes merry as Chawla tosses on up. He smokes it over long-on for six.

Piyush Chawla into the attack

SRH 15/0 in 2 overs: Roy's here to crash the party. Bumrah bowls short and Roy slams him past mid-wicket for four. He follows up with a length delivery and Roy lofts him straight back for another boundary. Bumrah finishes with an off-cutter that squares up Roy.

Bumrah's up

SRH 5/0 in 1 over: Boult starts with an in-swinger before cramping up Roy. Roy dangerously gets away with a heave of the short ball as it flies just past mid-wicket. He gets a single. Boult hits Abhishek's pads first-up and Mumbai goes for the review. Poor call from Rohit as it slides down leg. Abhishek lofts one over mid-off to open his account.

Trent Boult to start MI's improbable task.

The chase begins. A determined Rohit leads one final pep talk before walking in with his men. Abhishek Sharma and Jason Roy open for Sunrisers.

===========================================

Save the equation for a bit and let's applaud two spell-binding knocks, courtesy SKY and Ishan Kishan! Massive for Indian fans, for the WC's just a week away.

Sensational Surya!

MI 235/9 in 20 overs: Holder to Chawla. OUT! Straight up and holes out to long-on. Two slower-ones from Holder and Surya perishes as well. He fails to connect and that's another easy hold at mid-wicket.  Bumrah gets an edge first ball and that races to the boundary before a single to finish.

MI 230/7 in 19 overs: Imperious batting from SKY! Three boundaries in a row against the seething pace of Umran. He picks up the slower-ball too from Malik as he reverse laps him behind Saha for four. Umran;s bouncer then cops SKY  flush on the head and he's in pain. A short break in play as the physios come running down.  Fortunately for Mumbai, he's back. Umran keeps him stuck in the crease for the last ball and he's off strike for the next.

Umran for his final over

MI 217/7 in 18 overs: Holder to NCN. OUT! Two skiers and caught at the second attempt. Needless from him at the moment. Slower ball from Holder and all NCN needed to do was to get off strike. He tries for slog over long-on but falls short by a fair margin.  Fourth catch for Nabi! Meanwhile, SKY continues the onslaught with a boundary to midwicket and doubles up with a cracking six down the ground. Nathan Coulter-Nile c Mohammad Nabi b Holder 3 (3b)

Holder into the attack.

MI 204/6 in 17 overs: Fifty for SKY and that's 200 for Mumbai! Kaul sends in few loose length deliveries and Surya obliges by lofting them over mid-off thrice in the over. This is now just the third 200-plus score in Abu Dhabi in IPL history.

Kaul's last over

MI 190/6 in 16 overs: Rashid to Krunal. OUT! Straight up in the air and an easy take for Nabi once again. He can do no wrong. He rushes it in to Krunal who aims to whip it across. The ball clips the top-edge and lobs up.  Surya continues to attack as he stifles Rashid with a sizzling to fine leg for four.  Krunal Pandya c Mohammad Nabi b Rashid Khan 9 (7b 1x4)

Rashid to bowl out

MI 177/5 in 15 overs: Excellent from Nabi given the circumstances. SKY and KP nudge about in singles before a wristy hoick from Surya finds the mid-wicket fence.

Nabi is back

MI 167/5 in 14 overs: SKY begins with the scoop and he gets four runs. Kaul bowls short outside off and Surya manages to smack it over backward square for six. Some wrists on that one! Krunal finds the boundary to follow up as he sends the short ball over midwicket for another four. 15 comes off the over.

Kaul switches ends

MI 151/5 in 13 overs: Abhishek to Pollard. OUT! Excellent stuff from SRH! Pollard falls to the trap as he tonks the ball over Abhishek to the straight fielder down the ground. Top field placement to get hold of the big man. Pollard never got going tonight. Neesham's the new man and he falls first ball! Lobs it straight to Nabi at cover.  Kieron Pollard c Roy b Abhishek Sharma 13 (12b 1x4); James Neesham c Mohammad Nabi b Abhishek Sharma 0 (1b)

Abhishek Sharma replaces Kaul

MI 146/3 in 12 overs: Pollard fails to get going against Rashid and sets himself deep in the crease. He finds a single. Rashid goes full and SKY somehow makes room for the sweep and beats the fielder to the fine leg boundary.

Rashid returns

MI 139/3 in 11 overs: Kaul to Pollard. OUT! Gets him plumb! Pollard goes up for a review. It looks absolutely dead first-up on replays. Pollard walks back to the dug-out and is halfway there as he stops for a moment. WICKETS MISSING ON REPLAY! Wow. Pollard seemed an absolute goner there. The ball has eventually missed the stumps by some considerable margin. Massive lifeline for Polly and Mumbai. More misery for SRH as Surya paddles Kaul for a four to finish.

A frenetic first-half has ended. Kaul returns with the ball.

MI 131/3 in 10 overs: Umran to Kishan. OUT! Edged and gone! A sensational knock tapers off on a tepid note. Umran is fired up. Memories of Raina's blitzkrieg all over this knock. SKY comes in at 5 and gets off the mark with a hook towards fine leg. There's another misfield on the fence, Holder this time, as the ball beats him to the fence.  Ishan Kishan c †Saha b Umran Malik 84 (32b 11x4 4x6)

MI 124/2 in 9 overs: Holder to Hardik. OUT! Two excellent balls to start off and Hardik holes out to long-on. Nagging stuff from Holder on return. He pins them in the blockhole and follows up with one in the slot. Hardik fails to time it and Roy has an easy grab in the deep. Pollard comes in. Holder greets him with a bouncer that slides down leg for five wides. Holder gets in another slower bouncer and Pollard hardly manages it push it towards backward square. A bizarre midfield from Kaul as he simplys skates past the ball! Hardik Pandya c Roy b Holder 10 (8b 1x6)

Holder is back

MI 112/1 in 8 overs: Kishan wallops Rashid for another maximum over long-on. 104m! And that's 100 up for Mumbai in 44 balls! Jaw-dropping stuff and Hardik joins the party. Rashid is smoked for another flourishing stroke over mid-wicket.

MI 97/1 in 7 overs: Relentless hitting from Kishan. He tears into Umran with another astounding strike down the ground. Simply tonks him off the slot and it goes all the way for six. Goodness me, this is some ball-striking from the young lad.

Umran continues

Kishan's 63 in the Powerplay is the third-most by a batter in IPL history. Only Raina's 87 (2014) and Gilchrist's 74 (2009) are ahead of him.

DM55M0274JPG
Words from the skipper to Hardik after his dismissal.

MI 83/1 in 6 overs: Rashid to Rohit. OUT! A excellent catch from Nabi to pack the skipper. Rashid bowls short on line and Rohit attempts a wry flick. It clips the top-edge and Nabi runs back from square leg to complete a tumbling catch. Hardik comes in at 3.   Rohit c Nabi b Rashid Khan 18(13)

Rashid Khan replaces Holder

MI 78/0 in 5 overs: This is PHENOMENAL! Rohit slides Umran's incoming delivery behind short fine for four. Kishan then whacks Umran over mid-wicket for another boundary before smoking down the ground to finish. What a start this is!

Umran Malik into the attack. Rohit on strike

MI 63/0 in 4 overs: A missed opportunity in the deep. Holder starts off with a fine bouncer that follows Rohit. He goes for his customary pull and nearly finds Rashid at backward square. Rashid covers some ground to reach the ball but fails to make it on the full. The ball skips to the fence for another boundary. Fifty for Kishan - the fastest of the season!  He finds a top-edge six before whipping Holder for two blazing boundaries on the on-side.

Holder replaces Kaul

MI 41/0 in 3 overs: Rohit starts off with a crisp drive through covers and finds the boundary. Kishan gets into the act as he executes another slog-sweep. Kishan's on fire! The timing has been excellent from ball one and he creams Nabi down the ground for another four to finish!

Nabi continues

MI 26/0 in 2 overs: Kishan goes berserk!  Four boundaries in a row as he sprays Kaul all over the field. He starts off with a pull beside mid-on and follows up with a slap down the ground. Two drives lace cover and backward point soon after! This is exceptional hitting as he pierces the gaps perfectly on either side of the wicket.

Siddarth Kaul from the opposite end

MI 8/0 in 1 over:
Loose and wide from Nabi to start. Rohit cuts but fails to beat point, gets a single. Kishan then starts off with a bang! SIX! A cracking slog-sweep for the maximum! Nabi cramps the batters to follow up and finish off on a fine note.

Mohammad Nabi up with the new ball.

GAME ON! Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan walk out for Mumbai.  Pandey's men have taken the field.

====================================

7:15PM IST: Not out, just yet! Mumbai has got the very minimum right to start things off. Rohit agrees that they'll go guns blazing, left without minimum choices. Meanwhile, Sunrisers will be led by Pandey - his first in the IPL.

How many sixes per head tonight?

Mumbai Indians XI: Rohit Sharma, Ishan Kishan, Suryakumar Yadav, Kieron Pollard, Hardik Pandya, Jimmy Neesham, Krunal Pandyam Nathan Coulter-Nile, Piyush Chawla, Trent Boult, Jasprit Bumrah

Sunrisers Hyderabad XI: Jason Roy,  Abhishek Sharma, Manish Pandey (capt), Priyam Garg, Abdul Samad, Wriddhiman Saha (wk), Jason Holder, Rashid Khan, Mohammad Nabi, Siddarth Kaul, Umran Malik

TOSS: Mumbai wins the toss, elected to bat first!

Rohit Sharma : We are going to bat first, no choice (smiles). The numbers are pretty scary, but we are going to give it all. Let's hope we can come out and do what we love to do. It's important to enjoy the game as well. It's been an on and off season for us. This is a great opportunity for us to do something that's never been done before. Our batters have't come collectively and performed as a team in the UAE leg. But these guys have done exceedingly well for respective teams. Just can happen. Two changes. Getting Krunal back and Piyush Chawla back. No Tiwary and Jayant Yadav.

TOSS time!  Manish Pandey leading Sunrisers.

Meanwhile, RCB has won the Toss in Dubai and elected to bowl first.

Toss coming up! A reminder for MI fans, that Rohit needs to win the toss or Williamson must oblige if he wins to allow Mumbai to bat first. Only then would they prolong their Playoffs qualification hopes.

6:50PM IST: Pretty relaxed are the Mumbai squad as they go their warm-ups. The pitch seems to be a belter for tonight. Would be a bummer for Rohit and Co. if Williamson wins the toss and opts to bat first!

6:40PM IST: Suryakumar Yadav: Nothing changes, everything remains the same, all routines, all processes same. You get up, you follow everything, whatever you have been doing for the last 8-10 years, so everything remains the same. Contribution for the team - that has been a little disturbing from my side because since the last 2-3 seasons I have been always trying to be there whenever the team required. This year I have not been part of contributions so that's been hurting a lot more. But the show must go on. Staying consistent is the key at this point of my career. Trying to be always there whenever the team requires and contributing to the team's victory - that's the most important thing which I have been working on. (On tonight) We'll see, let's go all out and decide what's gonna happen.

6:33PM IST: There's only one mantra for MI tonight: smash 'em all the way

Eyes on the prize!

5:58PM IST: NUMBERS GAME

5:45PM IST:
Will Abu Dhabi witness a MIracle tonight?

DM55IPL7JPG
First look of the surface in Abu Dhabi.

5:15PM IST: A daunting task awaits the two-time defending champion. Having pulled off epic comebacks in the past, any slim a chance for qualification can well put Mumbai in contention. But the requirement of a win over a margin of 170-plus runs and the absolute necessity of batting first, has already doused big hopes. Here's a look at the highest scores in Abu Dhabi and what exactly MI needs to do tonight

Highest Totals in Abu Dhabi in IPL history:

206/4, PBKS (KXIP) vs CSK, IPL 2014

205/4 , CSK vs PBKS (KXIP), IPL 2014

196/2, RR vs MI, IPL 2021

There has only been two 200-plus totals in Abu Dhabi in IPL history besides a single T20I total over the mark (Ireland's 225/7 vs Afghanistan, 2013)

MATCH PREVIEW

Twice in the last six Indian Premier League editions have Mumbai Indians and Sunrisers Hyderabad locked horns in the final game of the league stage.

Five-time champion Mumbai will meet the out of sorts Sunrisers in Abu Dhabi on Friday.

It is a must-win match for Mumbai to make yet another miraculous entry into the final. Rohit Sharma will hope his unit strikes form against an unpredictable Sunrisers, who snatched a four-run victory from Royal Challengers Bangalore on Wednesday.

In 2015, the last league game between these two teams was a virtual quarterfinal, with the winner set to enter the Playoffs. And Sunrisers wilted under the pressure as MI entered the Playoffs in style.

In 2020, in an inconsequential clash, David Warner and Wriddhiman Saha stitched together an unbroken 151-run opening partnership to help Sunrisers end a largely forgettable campaign on a winning note.

This time around, Sunrisers have nothing to gain except for a few individuals who may have a point to prove for retention. For Mumbai, the outcome of its topsy-turvy campaign this year will possibly rely on this clash.

Mumbai's wobbly middle-order will have to fire, considering the enormous task in front of it after Kolkata Knight Riders beat Rajasthan Royals by 86 runs on Thursday. Mumbai, if it bats first, will need to win by 171 runs to qualify for the playoffs. If it bats second, then the task is nigh impossible.

Predicted Line-ups

Mumbai Indians Probable XI: Rohit Sharma, Ishan Kishan, Suryakumar Yadav, Saurabh Tiwary, Kieron Pollard, Hardik Pandya, Jimmy Neesham, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Jayant Yadav, Trent Boult, Jasprit Bumrah

Sunrisers Hyderabad Probable XI: Jason Roy, Abhishek Sharma, Kane Williamson, Priyam Garg, Abdul Samad, Wriddhiman Saha, Jason Holder, Rashid Khan, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Umran Malik, Siddarth Kaul
