Minutes after being picked by Delhi Daredevils, Gautam Gambhir made it clear that he was happy to be back to his old franchise. The India discard batsman, who captained Kolkata Knight Riders for the last seven years, took to Twitter and wrote: “I am back.”
That short message got a huge response on social media as his fans kept on retweeting and sharing it across platforms. Later speaking to official broadcaster Star Sports , he also admitted that he wanted to end his IPL career with the Daredevils — a franchise where he started his IPL sojourn in 2008. “Playing for Delhi was always something I dreamt of. I wanted to finish off where it started. Delhi is my hometown and it is great to come back home and play for your home team. I am a Delhi boy and now I have become a proper Delhi boy,” Gambhir said, adding: “A Delhi boy is now coming back to Delhi.”
Knight Riders released him earlier this month and decided to retain Andre Russell and Sunil Narine. In December, Sportstar was the first publication to report about such a possibility.
Now, back to his old side, Gambhir would be hoping to make the most of the opportunity.
