Axar Patel picked up the first hat-trick of this IPL season and his four-wicket haul helped Kings XI Punjab successfully defend its total in Rajkot on Sunday.

The newly appointed Kings XI Punjab captain Murali Vijay decided to go on a leather hunt and scored his 10th IPL fifty. He also stitched together a 65-run opening partnership with Marcus Stoinis.

Shivil Kaushik was the pick of the bowlers for Gujarat Lions. He scalped three including the crucial wicket of Murali Vijay.

In the second match of the day, Steven Smith picked up from where he left off and scored a brisk 45 runs for Rising Pune Supergiants against Mumbai Indians at the Maharashtra Cricket Association ground at Gahunje.

Saurabh Tiwary collected 57 runs to help RPS set a respectable 160-run target against Mumbai Indians.

MI's Jasprit Bumrah picked up three wickets including the crucial wicket of Steven Smith.

Parthiv Patel played a cameo of 21 runs before he fell caught behind to RPS skipper and wicket-keeper M.S. Dhoni.

But skipper Rohit Sharma — nicknamed Hitman in the Mumbai Indians dressing room — led from the front to anchor a perfect chase on Sunday. He was unbeaten on 85.
