Punjab Kings bowling coach Damien Wright credited captain K. L. Rahul for the side’s five-wicket win over Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL in Dubai on Friday.
Wright said Rahul’s knock was crucial in PBKS’ run chase.
"His innings was super, we were quite attacking from the other end and K.L. played a real anchor role. I would have loved to see him there at the end, but his innings tonight was super," said Wright in the post-match press conference.
Wright also praised pacers Mohammed Shami and Arshdeep Singh.
"It is purely down to the way they train and apply themselves. It's been an area of our game that we have been strong at (bowling in the death) and their last two overs were the difference in the game. Both of them work really hard and that's just paying off,” said Wright, while acknowledging the role of spinner Ravi Bishnoi.
KKR coach Brendon McCullum said the absence of Andre Russell impacted the side. "In terms of the balance, when you take out a world-class all-rounder like Andre Russell, it is always difficult to balance your side," he said.
"We played another good match, PBKS deserved the win because they seized the key moments.”
McCullum expected captain Eoin Morgan to score more runs. "Obviously, he (Morgan) is one of our senior players, one of our international batters. He captains the side very well tactically, but you want some more runs from him," said McCullum, while expecting a bright future for KKR top-scorer Venkatesh Iyer.
