Kieron Pollard powered Mumbai past 100 with five massive sixes.

Hello and welcome to Sportstar's HIGHLIGHTS of IPL 2021 Match 27 between Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings being played in Delhi.

CSK's tormentor since the last decade. Runs, wickets, catches, he's done it all!

MI 219/6 in 20 overs: Pollaaard! He has single-handedly taken Mumbai home! An absolute frenzied finish.
This has been some revelation of the self belief in his power. Ngidi pushes in a low full toss that Pollard hits to deep square leg and does not run. Ngidi drills in a yorker and Pollard somehow gets his bat down in time to sneak a boundary behind fine leg. A full toss follows and Pollard slides it down to the boundary. 8 off 3 and Pollard does not run again even as Thakur concedes a misfield at deep square leg! 8 off 2 and SIX! Pollard swivels and smashes it over square as Ngidi's brain-fade continues. 2 off 1! Ngidi hits the blockhole and Pollard squirts it out to long-on. Pollard charges and stops at the other end but sets off on the double after seeing Kulkarni. Mumbai pulls off an epic heist! The second highest chase in IPL history!

MI 203/6 in 19 overs: WHAT.AN.OVER. Hardik smashes Curran for two sixes but he comes back to dismiss him off the fourth ball. Hardik does not get the timing right and du Plessis redeems himself at long-off. Neesham comes in and attempts a scoop that goes to straight to the hands of Thakur at deep square leg. Now, 16 off the final over!  Hardik Pandya c du Plessis b Sam Curran 16(7) [6s-2], Neesham c Thakur b Sam Curran 0(1)

MI 188/4 in 18 overs: KIERON POLLARD, what are you made off? Thakur drills in a near perfect wide yorker but Pollard digs deep and waltzes it down the ground for six! He then bulldozes another boundary towards long-off. Hold on, the big moment is here! Faf du Plessis has dropped a dolly at long-on as Kieron Pollard survives!  Pressure gets to the safest hands in the field and is that the game right there?

MI 171/4 in 17 overs: Curran to Krunal. OUT! Peach of a delivery from Curran and Krunal is dead in front! This young bloke is a class act and Mumbai loses the momentum in a snap. Curran drills in a cracking over to keep Pollard and Hardik quiet. Just the two runs off this over! 48 off three needed now! Krunal Pandya lbw b Curran 32 (23b 2x4 2x6)

MI 169/3 in 16 overs: Massive over for Krunal and Mumbai!  Ngidi fends one short and Krunal plays a crazy ramp, probably off the edge for six! He finds two more boundaries as Ngidi goes for radar again. The last boundary nearly misses a diving Gaikwad at mid-wicket.

MI 153/3 in 15 overs: Pollard switches ON the Beast Mode! Thakur is absolutely smoked out of the park with a 103-metre hit down the ground! Thakur is visibly shaken and continues to fend wide deliveries.  Pollard then creams the fuller ball straight through covers and a diving Moeen had no chance. A streak of luck follows as a thick edge rushes down to third-man past Dhoni. Pollard then romps his way to a 17-ball fifty as Mumbai crosses 150! Krunal, however, continues to struggle with runs coming at just a run-a-ball.

MI 130/3 in 14 overs:
Well, well! Pollard is in the mood tonight! Ngidi dishes in a loose short ball and Pollard slashes it over mid-wicket for another six! And he's not done just yet. Pollard hardly gets the timing right but the absolutely flies over long-on for another biggie! There's life in this chase and it's not over until Pollard is out there at the middle.

MI 114/3 in 13 overs: The brute of Kieron Pollard!
Jadeja tosses the ball in and Pollard begins with a rocketing shot down the ground but MSD's sharp straighter fielder stops it. Pollard then absolutely wallops Jadeja's fuller ball, a 97-metre monster straight out of the stadium. Jadeja pushed it even wider off his reach but Pollard still managed to carry it over the deep point fence. Dhoni asks Jadeja to bowl a lot straighter but it is to no avail as Pollard muscles it over mid-wicket for another massive six.

MI 94/3 in 12 overs: Game slipping away thick and fast from Mumbai. Krunal opens the over with a stand and deliver hit down the ground for six. Thakur, however, keeps the pressure on the batters as the pair fails to find the boundary again in the over.

MI 84/3 in 11 overs: Krunal struggles to find the gaps as Jadeja keeps a straight wicket-to-wicket line. He and Pollard see off the over with a couple of singles as the pressure continues to climb on Mumbai.

MI 81/3 in 10 overs: Moeen to de Kock. OUT! Chips straight back to bowler and gone! What a tame dismissal after setting yourself well at the crease. Moeen gets the ball to turn away from middle andde Kock who steps out finds the thick edge. The ball comfortably lobs up and straight to Ali who completes an easy catch. Mumbai is slowly losing its way in the chase, losing three wickets in three straight overs.  de Kock c and b Moeen Ali 38(28) [4s-4 6s-1]

MI 80/2 in 9 overs: Jadeja to SKY. OUT! Edged and taken by MSD! Sir Jadeja is on a dream run and Mumbai loses its big fish. Jadeja dashes the ball outside the off-stump and Suryakumar attempts a nudge with no feet movement whatsover. The outside edge flies off the blade and Dhoni completes a top catch behind the stumps.  Suryakumar Yadav c Dhoni b Jadeja 3(3)

Jadeja into the attack

MI 74/1 in 8 overs: Thakur to Rohit. OUT! Sliced in the air and Rohit is caught at sweeper cover! Rohit has looked edgy through the night and he goes for yet another hard slog off Thakur. The ball sails over point and straight to Gaikwad who makes no mistake. Massive blow for Mumbai for the skipper is walking back for 35. Rohit c Ruturaj Gaikwad b Thakur 35(24) [4s-4 6s-1]

Shardul Thakur into the attack

MI 68/0 in 7 overs: Chahar is visibly exhausted but still finds a decent over to finish. A low full toss to de Kock helps him find the fence easily with a flick of wrists. Rohit, at the other end, continues to miss the slower ones and he passes on a wry smile to his partner as he misses a regulation pull.

Chahar to finish his quota as MSD brings him up again

MI 58/0 in 6 overs: Rohit gets his timing right this time and sends Ngidi's first ball straight down the ground for a massive six. Ngidi slashes the pace and the MI skippers instantly has troubles timing it. de Kock gets to strike and pummels Ngidi down the ground for an elegant on-drive for four. Powerplay done and Mumbai will be happy that it is off to a good start without losing the openers.

MI 44/0 in 5 overs: Top over from Chahar has he troubles both batsmen with the slower ones. The batsmen have failed to find the timing and just the four runs from the over.

MI 40/0 in 4 overs: Rohit finds a couple of boundaries off Curran but looked nowhere near his best through the whole over. He is just swinging it blindly and luckily a couple of them does not meet the fielders.

MI 30/0 in 3 overs: An eventful over that one! Rohit attempts a full-bloodied slog over Chahar but the edge narrowly escapes Rayudu at slips and races to the boundary. Rohit gets it right the next ball as he gently glides the wide delivery down the third man once again. Chahar returns after a brief halt after a niggle in his knee and hits Rohit's pads and goes up. The umpire gives it rightaway and Rohit has a long chat with QDK before going for the review. He was unsure but what a lucky break that is. The replays suggest a nick and Rohit survives. de Kock then gets to strike and nearly turns 90 degrees to ramp Chahar straight besides the keeper for six!

Chahar has some discomfort in his knee as he runs in.

MI 15/0 in 2 overs: Curran finds some swing away from de Kock who makes a late adjustment to slide the ball down third man for a boundary. Curran keeps it nipping back to both batsmen since and finishes a tight over.

Sam Curran into the attack

MI 8/0 in 1 over: Chahar begins with a loose delivery that strays to de Kock's pads.  de Kock moves front and flicks it through square first ball for four. Rohit gets into strike and has a tentative start against Chahar who finds a hint of swing moving away from him.

Deepak Chahar with the new ball.

The Chase Is On! The CSK huddle has a chat led by MSD on the field before walking to their positions.  Quinton de Kock and Rohit Sharma settle at the middle.

==============================================

What a display of batting has this been from CSK! After a terrific platform set up by du Plessis and Moeen Ali - both cracking fifties - Mumbai jumped right back into the contest as Kieron Pollard and Jasprit Bumrah provided the breakthroughs. Raina fell early as Pollard got his second and Mumbai hoped to have gained the momentum. However, a mesmerising Ambati Rayudu rolled back the clock as he bludgeoned the hapless MI bowlers left, right and centre to power Chennai to a top finish.

CSK 218/4 in 20 overs: An epic finish for CSK! Take a bow, Ambati Rayudu ! Kulkarni once again starts off with four excellent deliveries only to be disrupted by two looseners to follow. Rayudu cashes in off the full-toss as he sends it way back into the stands over fine leg. Rohit is absolutely distraught. Kulkarni offers another fuller delivery and Rayudu hits through the line over point and a misfield from Suryakumar, sends it to for four. 218/4 on the board for Chennai - its highest IPL score against Mumbai Indians!

CSK 204/4 in 19 overs: Bumrah cranks up the pace and Rayudu fails to get his timing right. Bumrah then goes down the line to Jadeja who flicks down the leg-side for a boundary. Chennai sails past 200 and there's another over in the bank. Jasprit Bumrah finishes with figures of 4-0-56-1: his most expensive spell in IPL history!

CSK 194/4 in 18 overs: Rayudu at the peak of his powers! This is batting of the highest order as Rayudu stomps on Boult, leaving him in tatters by the end of the onslaught. Boult attempts the bouncer but Rayudu pulls and sends it towering over the mid-wicket boundary.  The mid-off comes in and Boult goes for the fuller ball, only to have Rayudu drill it down the ground to bring up a 20-ball fifty! Rayudu continues the attack with another sizzling stroke over extra-cover for four and Chennai has taken the hold back on the match.

CSK 174/4 in 17 overs: Rayudu in the zone!
Bumrah has no answers has he misses the blockhole twice against Rayudu. In the slot and Rayudu creams it over extra cover for a stunning six. Things get worse for him as he oversteps on the same ball. Bumrah slides the free-hit delivery to Rayudu who deftly sends it down fine leg for another boundary.

CSK 153/4 in 16 overs: Rayudu on fire! He absolutely waltzes Kulkarni as Chennai cruises past 150.  A largely neat over from Kulkarni is spoilt by Rayudu's massive sixes.  Full toss and length deliveries from the bowler helps Rayudu's case and Chennai has picked up on the run-rate once again.

Kulkarni back into the attack

CSK 136/4 in 15 overs: Rayudu gets into the act! Chahar drags the ball down the line and Rayudu absolutely dismisses it from its presence. A quick swivel helps him to launch it way into the stands beside mid-wicket and Chennai presses on the pedal once again.

CSK 126/4 in 14 overs: Pollard is everywhere! The big man nearly runs through Jadeja as he hits the pads and goes up for a loud appeal. The umpire has a good thought at it and raises the finger. Jadeja instantly goes for the review and the replays suggest that ball pitched outside-leg and he survives. Pollard creates another big moment as the ball lobs off Jadeja's bat straight. Pollard goes for a low-dive but the ball bounces off his palms and a massive chance goes down.

CSK 118/4 in 13 overs: Chahar capitalises with the new-men finding their feet at the crease. Rayudu and Jadeja tread quietly as just a couple of runs come off the over.

CSK 116/4 in 12 overs: Pollard snaps Faf and Raina off successive balls! What a turnaround for Mumbai!  A poor minute's cricket as put Chennai back on level terms. Faf attempts the ramp off Pollard's slower delivery and skies it straight to a tumbling Bumrah at short fine. Raina does not wait to get along as he attempts a slog over mid-wicket, only to fall short of the boundary and straight to Krunal's hands at mid-wicket.  du Plessis c Bumrah b Pollard 50(28) [4s-2 6s-4], Raina c Krunal Pandya b Pollard 2(4)

CSK 112/2 in 11 overs: Bumrah to Moeen. OUT! A tame dismissal for Ali as Bumrah strikes right in time for MI! In an over that began with absolute carnage from Faf - 6,6,4 - all coming off some fierce short balls from Bumrah - the sling-man has the last laugh.  Ali attempts to take a leaf out of Faf and continue the attack on Bumrah who deftly pushes in a slower bouncer. Ali glides towards the third-man fence but not fine enough to cross de Kock. A dazzling innings of strokeplay has come to a wry ending.  Moeen Ali c de Kock b Bumrah 58(36) [4s-5 6s-5]

CSK 95/1 in 10 overs: Ali adds insult to injury! Mumbai nearly had its breakthrough after a sizzling throw from SKY at mid-wicket rockets to hit the stumps, but QDK's gloves reached there first. The replays suggest that de Kock broke the bails before the ball and Mumbai has lost a massive chance here. Ali makes Neesham pay with a massive six, followed by a boundary through long-off to finish the over.

CSK 77/1 in 9 overs: The onslaught begins from both ends! Chahar fends the ball short, helping Ali and Faf to take charge. Two sixes adorn either side of the wicket as Chennai continues to ramp up the innings.

CSK 61/1 in 8 overs: Neesham keps it full and Ali drills out a smacking shot only to be stopped by SKY at covers. Ali then smokes the shorter ball just inches over a flying Krunal Pandya at deep mid-wicket for six. Neesham comes back well as nails a couple of yorkers to keep Ali in his tracks.

Jimmy Neesham into the attack

CSK 53/1 in 7 overs: Top start from Chahar as pushes in three googlies. Ali nearly overruns one in an attempt to take charge. Chahar hits the hard length for du Plessis and the duo at the crease keeps it easy against the leggie early on.

Powerplay done and Rahul Chahar enters the attack

CSK 49/1 in 6 overs:  Boult rushes the ball in a lot fuller this time. A couple of yorkers nearly beats Ali who has been sharp all night. Ali smashes Boult's bumper once again to square leg and this time it makes the rope as Krunal Pandya falters on the boundary line, perhaps over-run a bit there.

Boult continues from the other end.

CSK 42/1 in 5 overs: Moeen Ali, you beauty! Bumrah runs in with his regulation Powerplay delivery onto the feet of his batsmen. However, Ali has complete control over this one, nonchalantly flicking it over backward square leg for six. The recovery from the Boult jolt is going strong for CSK.

Jasprit Bumrah replaces Trent Boult

CSK 33/1 in 4 overs: Ali continues to find the fence as Rohit persists with Kulkarni.  Kulkarni runs in with which better rhythm and nearly cleans up Ali with a neat yorker. He concedes a low full toss to Ali off the final ball and the southpaw gently pushes it through mid-on to the boundary.

CSK 27/1 in 3 overs: Sheer elegance from Moeen!
Boult rubbishes his own plans of attempting to swing the bowl away from Ali. He dishes in a shorter ball to Ali who easily pulls it over the square leg for six! Boult goes full and Ali easily swings his arms down the ground to get another boundary. Boult nearly succeeds with the bouncer as Ali's pull falls a few inches in front of Bumrah at deep mid-wicket.

CSK 15/1 in 2 overs: du Plessis on the prowl! Faf is not bogged down by his partner's dismissal. A loose delivery down leg is gently flicked down the fine leg fence. du Plessis doubles up with a cracking six down the ground on the advance. Signs of rustiness from Kulkarni first-up.

Dhawal Kulkarni into the attack

CSK 4/1 in 1 over: Boult to Gaikwad. OUT! Leading edge and GONE! Boult swings it in from over the wicket and Ruturaj wavers while attempting a shot to the on-side. The ball hits the outside edge and flies straight to Hardik Pandya at point! Excellent from Boult as he comes back in style after Ruturaj's smashing boundary through covers. Boult troubles Moeen Ali first-up with a couple of away-swingers. Ruturaj Gaikwad c Hardik Pandya b Boult 4(4) [4s-1]

Trent Boult takes the new ball.

GAME ON! The umpires walk out to the field and followed by CSK's openers - Ruturaj Gaikwad and Faf du Plessis. Rohit's men walk out after a brief huddle chat.

===================================================

Still no signs of Ishan Kishan as Mumbai keeps shuffling with its line-up. The big-hitting Jimmy Neesham makes his debut as Jayant Yadav paves way. Dhawal Kulkarni gets his first game this season as Coulter-Nile misses out. Mumbai hosting a four-men pace attack tonight.  MS Dhoni's men have sorted their combination and believes to stick with the line-up unless an odd change in its bowling attack. Perhaps, for the first time over the last few years, CSK heads into the fixture as the favourite by a whisker.

MS Dhoni
- We were looking to field first as well, the last game we played, the pitch got better and better as the game progressed. All the teams in this IPL are very good, the team which plays well on that day will win.  No changes for us

Rohit Sharma  - We will bowl first. Looks like a good pitch, weiull get better and better as the game progresses. We have some tactical changes, it's important to understand the conditions and the opposition. James Neesham comes in place of Jayant Yadav. Dhawal Kulkarni replaces Nathan Coulter-Nile. For us, every game is important, don't want to look too far ahead, tick all the small boxes and get things right

TOSS: Mumbai Indians wins the Toss, elects to Field

TOSS TIME!

====================================================

UPDATE: Jimmy Neesham receives the Mumbai Indians cap. Probably, a swap with Nathan Coulter-Nile.

PITCH REPORT: Anjum Chopra sizes up the Kotla wicket. She points out that the one of the squares is pretty short in length, just 55 metres. She recognises there's a fine covering of grass that is primed to stay the same throughout the 40 over. Dew is likely post 8 pm, but is not likely to be an imposing factor on the match.  The track is the same that was used for the Vijay Hazare Trophy where runs were scored in excess of 300.

6:25PM:
Live visuals show Rohit Sharma walking towards pitch-side. MS Dhoni is seen unpacking his goodies in the dressing room.

Rahul Chahar has been one of Mumbai's go-to bowlers so far this season. The youngster will once again become a vital cog in the Hitman's plans tonight.

WhatsApp-Image-2021-05-01-at-180613jpeg
Will Rahul Chahar spin a web around table-topper CSK in Delhi tonight?

6:00PM: An hour away from all the important Toss. Will MI extend its dominance or can Dhoni's men continue its five-match unbeaten streak?

Key Battles

Rohit Sharma has failed to bring his A-game against CSK's Ravindra Jadeja in the IPL. Jadeja has stopped the MI skipper, giving away just 71 runs off 72 balls.

Trent Boult has picked up just one wicket in the Powerplay this season unlike 2020 where the left-armer racked up 16 wickets from the first six. Boult's clash with an in-form Faf du Plessis could set the tone early. du Plessis has had a poor record against Boult, scoring 34 off 36 balls while being dismissed twice. However, Boult has struggled against Dhoni in the death overs over the past few seasons. Dhoni has smashed 65 runs off 27 balls against the Kiwi pacer, at an astounding strike rate of 268.42.

Jasprit Bumrah has had the wood over CSK skipper MS Dhoni conceding just 56 runs from as many in the league.

Numbers Game

- MATCH PREVIEW -

Chapter No.31 of the league's biggest rivalry unfolds in an unfamiliar setting in Delhi tonight. It's taken six rounds for both, Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings, before the stage was set to rekindle their marquee clash. The defending champion who holds a comfortable stand against Dhoni's army - both in recent times and overall - would however, not begin the favourite this time.

In a dramatic shift in fortunes within seven-eight months, CSK is back and running in typical shape and has taken the early lead in the rat-race. MSD's men have put all doubters to bay with a thoroughly dominating performance so far and moves into the fixture with five wins on the trot. Chennai has hardly looked rattled with its top-order batters, all-rounders Jadeja, Moeen and Curran and pacer Deepak Chahar in top form.

Rohit Sharma's men, however, have revisited their old traits of playing catch-up, having started with a couple of blips early on in Chennai. A shaky middle-order comprising Ishan Kishan, Kieron Pollard and the Pandya brothers have added to MI's woes early on. However, with a bowling lineup that can rattle any opposition in possession, Rohit will wait for his big batsmen to switch gears soon before the side opts for key overhauls.

With the race for the top two spots in the table gaining steam, Mumbai meets the table-topper over whom the side has held a comfortable edge. With the second-leg fixtures set to roll out soon, tonight's clash could well sight the early leader to the top.
