CHENNAI SUPER KINGS 150/6 IN 20 OVERS

A tale of two halves for Chennai Super Kings with 94 runs coming in the first 10 overs and 56 in the remaining 10. Moeen Ali took CSK to 75 for one inside the PowerPlay with some stupendous hitting. The next 75 runs took 14 overs as the spinners put the stranglehold and the pacers followed it up with the ploy of bowling slower deliveries. The loss of regular wickets after the PowerPlay didn't help CSK's cause either. Moeen and MS Dhoni dragged themselves to a 51-run stand off 52 balls before the latter departed trying to up the ante in the 19th over. Obed McCoy's final over went for just four runs and capped off a clinical bowling performance as Rajasthan Royals pulled off a miraculous recovery.

A dot and a single follow as Dhoni strides forward to push the ball on the off-side. Full and Moeen drives it back to Chahal. Single to end the over as Moeen tucks it off his hips on leg-side.

CSK 111/4 in 14 overs: Ashwin bowls out. Full on the pads and Dhoni turns it away for a single on leg-side. Full on off-stump and Moeen digs it out to short third for a dot ball. Another yorker on middle and leg and Moeen digs it out straight back to the bowler. Flicked away for one next ball behind square. Dhoni pushes this wide of mid-off for another single. MATCH PREVIEW

Rajasthan Royals (RR) will look to finish its group stage campaign with a victory over struggling Chennai Superkings (CSK), at Brabourne Stadium here on Friday. A win will assure RR, currently level with Royal Challengers Bangalore on 16 points, of a playoff spot.

A 24-run win over Lucknow Super Giants on Sunday was crucial to RR staying ahead of the curve. The team rode on handy knocks from Yashasvi Jaiswal, skipper Sanju Samson and Devdutt Padikkal, before left-arm pacer Trent Boult (two for 18) did the job with the ball.

READIPL final postponed by half hour to accommodate closing ceremony

Jos Buttler has been dismissed for single digit scores in the last two outings, but the English batter remains the highest run-scorer of the tournament by a fair distance. West Indian batter Shimron Hetmyer, who travelled to West Indies earlier this month for the birth of his child, is back with the team. Legspinner Yuzvendra Chahal (24 wickets) is well supported by Prasidh Krishna, Boult and the economical R. Ashwin.

WATCH | IPL 2022: CSK vs RR head-to-head record, players to watch out for

CSK, on the other hand, is not in contention for a playoff spot. The side could use this game to give untested players a chance to shine. This approach worked in favour of speedster Matheesha Pathirana, who impressed in his IPL debut a few days ago. The Sri Lankan slinger, whose action resembles Lasith Malinga, even earned the praise of captain M.S. Dhoni.

CSK may have lost the match, but they did unearth a potential star. The unit will hope for more encouraging side notes on Friday.
