GT vs LSG Highlights, IPL 2023: GT 227/2 (20) beats LSG 171/7 (20) by 56 runs

Lucknow started well with Mayers and Quinton de Kock smashing the majority of the runs with the latter scoring a brilliant 70 off 41 balls. However, Lucknow but fell short of the target as Gujarat sealed the deal with a massive 56-run win.

Ayush Badoni has shown sparks of brilliance with the bat and promises to have the skill of playing the big shots as he launches Mohit straight down the ground for a maximum and then a boundary but the match has gone out of Lucknow’s reach as Mohit picks two wickets, his fourth and finishes an excellent spell registering figures of 4-0-29-4.

Noor into the attack as Badoni aims to attack the spinner by clearing the fence but fails to get the right connection. Noor picks his first wicket by removing Pooran and there was absolutely no timing as a heave only resulted in a top edge.

Ayush Badoni is LSG’s Impact Substitute in place of Yash Thakur and the youngster smokes Shami for a maximum with a brilliant lap shot. Lucknow needs 76 runs from 18 balls.

Quinton de Kock hammers Rashid Khan for a maximum over the mid-wicket but the required rate is well over 20 rpo against the current run-rate of 8.90. Rashid gets his man in the final ball of his spell as de Kock falls for a brilliant 41-ball 70 and this should be the game for Gujarat.

Quinton de Kock is trying his best to keep his side in the chase as he nails Mohit for a maximum but the bowler strikes back by removing Stoinis as the game is slowly slipping away from Lucknow’s grasp. Stoinis falls for just four runs and Gujarat is gradually taking full control of the chase. Nicholas Pooran is the new man in.

Noor into the attack and the required rate is steadily climbing with Gujarat tightening the screws. A lot depends on how Stoinis approaches the innings with de Kock at the other end. The spinner bowls an excellent over and gives just four runs. Top stuff.

Quinton de Kock brings up an excellent half-century in 31 balls and that’s been a quality knock. However, Deepak Hooda falls as Shami strikes, ending the batsman’s stay at the crease with a low full toss that was hit straight to Rahul Tewatia at the deep. Lucknow is in trouble as the run-rate is increasing with overs passing by with Marcus Stoinis joining de Kock.

Rashid Khan into his third over and the boundaries have dried up for Lucknow and the required rate is almost 15 against the current run rate of 9.46. Deepak Hooda is clearly struggling as Rashid bowls a brilliant over to keep the pressure on Lucknow.

Mohit Sharma continues from the other end and escaped a de Kock shuffle with the short third-man stopping a boundary. Deepak Hooda is slightly struggling to time the ball and the execution hasn’t been easy for the batsman. Mohit has done the containing job well and is yet to concede a boundary.

Hardik Pandya is back into the attack as de Kock holds the key in the run chase. The South African has played some exquisite shots on either side of the wicket and has dominated the attack. De Kock brings the 100-up for Lucknow with a brilliant six as the ball sailed flat over the deep mid-wicket for a maximum.

Mohit Sharma into the attack and a spectacular catch from Rashid Khan has given Gujarat the breakthrough as Mayers falls for a brilliant 32-ball 48. A special effort from the Afghan at the deep square leg region and Mohit has broken the 88-run opening stand. Deepal Hooda is the new man in and he must be itching to get some runs under his belt.

Hardik attacks by employing spin from both ends with Noor trying to sneak one through the bat and pad. However, de Kock pulls out a brilliant reverse sweep and the ball races to the third-man boundary. The southpaw then ends the over with another reverse hit to drive Lucknow.

Rashid continues as Gujarat aims to break the opening stand but Lucknow’s openers have given their team a brilliant start. Lucknow burnt a review as the leg-spinner thought he pinned Mayers but an inside edge saved the batsman. The breakthrough continues to evade Gujarat.

Spin from both ends as it’s Noor Ahmad who comes into the attack and creates an opportunity to dismiss Mayers but the ball evaded Miller and rolled over to the fence for a boundary. The left-arm spinner beats Mayers with a googly but the southpaw ends the over with a boundary to the long-off region. Lucknow up and running and that’s a brilliant finish to end the PowerPlay.

Rashid Khan into the attack and Lucknow is very much in this game with the required run-rate at 11.12 against the current rate of 12.50. Mayers in good form as he drills Rashid straight down the ground for a boundary and then De Kock finds the gap through the short mid-on to keep his side in the hunt.

Hardik continues to leak runs as de Kock smashes the Gujarat skipper over the mid-wicket for a boundary and then a gentle flick through the mid-on to keep the tempo going for Lucknow. Rashid failed to latch on to a catch and handed Mayers an early life at point. The fifty is up for Lucknow with a top-edge off Mayers as the ball flies over the keeper’s head for a boundary.

Saha has walked off the field along with the physio after experiencing some discomfort. De Kock is up and running with a couple of excellent boundaries, showing intent by shuffling and flicking Shami from outside the off-stump to the deep backward square leg boundary. Mayers then smoked Shami into the dug-out at wide long-on for a maximum. Mayers ended the over with a squeeze through the covers.

Mayers welcomes Hardik into the attack by attacking the Gujarat skipper with back-to-back boundaries as the opener three boundaries on the trot with a pull to the deep mid-wicket fence being the pick of the shot. Sedate start from Lucknow as Hardik starts in an expensive fashion.

Alzarri Joseph substitutes Shubman Gill as Impact Player as Mayers gets off the mark to kickstart Lucknow’s run chase. Shami starts well, posing questions to the openers and the length has been good as the ball beats the outside edge and then an in-dipper almost castled Mayers. De Kock yet to get off the mark.

Right then we are back for the chase and it will be Kyle Mayers along with Quinton de Kock and both openers will play a massive role in a tall run chase. With the ball, it will be Mohammed Shami who will start proceedings with the new ball. A bit of confusion as Bharat is padded up in place of Saha and there is no Shubman Gill either in the field. Strike that as Saha is back in the field donning the big gloves.

Gill starts the final over with a maximum, hammering Yash straight down the track for a brilliant six. Miller pulls the fast bowler for a boundary through the mid-wicket as Gill misses out on a well-deserved century. Nevertheless, it has been a brilliant knock from the opener as he remained unbeaten on 94 off 51 with Miller scoring a 12-ball 21.

Miller goes downtown as he gets underneath Avesh’s length delivery and nails it over the long-on for a maximum. It was in the slot, asking to be hit as Avesh missed his yorker and that was a bread-and-butter shot for Miller.

Miller gets his first boundary as he drives a low full-toss straight down the ground to bring the 200-up for Gujarat. Gill has an opportunity to score a century.

Gill makes room and hammers Avesh Khan for a boundary. David Miller will be playing a key role with the bat after the departure of Hardik Pandya as Gujarat aims a strong finish and both Gill and Miller will look to take the bowlers to the cleaners.

Mayers hands Hardik a life as he dropped the skipper at backward point but the Gujarat skipper couldn’t ride on his luck as he was caught by Krunal with Mohsin getting his man. Hardik falls for a 15-ball 25 and that’s the end of a nice cameo from the skipper.

Marcus Stoinis into the attack and Gill welcomes the all-rounder with a maximum as the opener picks the slower ball and dispatches it over the wide long-on. Gujarat will be eyeing for a strong finish while Lucknow trying their best to not allow the batsmen free their arms. But Hardik takes on the bowler and hammers him for a boundary and then a six over the deep cover region. 20 runs from the over.

Hardik gets into the act as he drills Yash over the wide of long-off and that’s a brilliant one to take his team past the 150-run mark. Yash goes wide and Hardik shuffles to nail the fast bowler for a 86-metre six.

Avesh Khan makes the breakthrough as the pacer breaks the 142-run opening stand with Prerak Mankad taking an excellent catch at the deep. Saha tried to flick Avesh but couldn’t clear the fielder at deep square leg as the keeper fell for a brilliant 43-ball 81. Hardik Pandya was almost back in the hut as the ball spun away after hitting his pads but the bails didn’t fall. Good over from Avesh.

Gill gets to his half-century in 29 balls and this has been a top batting show from the Gujarat opener. Saha sliced away Krunal’s low full-toss for another boundary and the Gujarat openers have put on a batting exhibition. Gill finished the over by smashing Krunal for a maximum as the ball sailed well over the long-on boundary.

Swapnil Singh comes in with an attempt to break the opening stand and the debutant will look to make an impression. The spinner did start well as he stemmed the flow of boundaries and gave just seven runs from his opening over.

Krunal back into the attack and the skipper has dragged his length back but the key to Lucknow’s comeback is wickets. Six runs from Krunal’s over but at the halfway stage, it’s Gujarat who is dictating terms with its openers firing.

Shubman Gill brings the 100-up for Gujarat by smashing Ravi Bishnoi for a maximum over the extra cover region. The opener exhibited his big-hitting prowess by launching the spinner for a 96-metre six straight into the sightscreen! This is some batting from the Gujarat openers. 17 runs from the over.

Saha is going great guns as he slays Kyle Mayers over the backward point for a boundary and the batsman capitalised on the width provided by the bowler. The opener then picked the gap and drilled a back of length delivery through the mid-wicket for another boundary. 16 runs from Mayers’ over and Gujarat cruising at this stage.

Ravi Bishnoi into the attack and Lucknow will look to stem the flow of runs. Saha rotates the strike by driving the spinner through the square for a single and then Gill takes another single to keep the scorecard ticking. A silent over, given the fireworks Saha has provided.

Saha smashes a 20-ball half-century and what a brilliant form he has been as he sent the bowlers on a leather hunt. Gets to the landmark by skipping down the track and smashing Yash Thakur for a maximum over long-on. Fabulous bating. Gill then joins the party by smashing the bowler over the deep square leg for a maximum as Gujarat ends the PowerPlay on a high.

This has been a brilliant start from Gujarat as both Saha and Gill have been brilliant with the wicket-keeper teeing off with six boundaries and three sixes striking at 242.11. Lucknow went for an LBW review with Krunal thinking that he trapped Gill but the ball was missing the stumps. Gill then finished the over with the six. Brilliant going from Gujarat.

Excellent from Saha as he pulls Mohsin Khan over the deep mid-wicket for a maximum and then cashes in on the width offered by bowlers to whip Mohsin for another boundary. The wicket-keeper then lofted the bowler over the long-off as the 50 comes up for Gujarat in just 4 overs with the batsman ending the over with another boundary to the deep square leg boundary.

Saha is on a roll as Krunal Pandya comes into the attack and the skipper gets hammered for a boundary as Gujarat is off to a good start inside the PowerPlay. Gill is off the mark and is playing the role of a second fiddle.

Saha has got the momentum going for Gujarat as he nails Avesh Khan for a maximum over the fine leg and then drills the pacer through the deep backward square leg boundary. Excellent start.

Mohsin Khan begins proceedings with the new ball and Saha gets going with a couple of boundaries with a drive through the covers being the pick of the shot. Gujarat up and running with the wicket-keeper getting off the blocks in a flash.
