The IPL 2020 auction will be a relatively smaller one, with only 73 slots to be filled by the eight franchises, of which 29 will be foreign buys.

While Chris Lynn became the first player to be picked for his base price ₹2 crore by the Mumbai Indians at the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 auction in Kolkata, India Test specialists Hanuma Vihari and Cheteshwar Pujara found no takers, on Thursday.

Additionally, Aussie all-rounder Pat Cummins shattered the cash counters, going for a whopping ₹15.5 crore to Kolkata Knight Riders.

Not only does this make him the highest-paid foreigner in the IPL ever (surpassing Ben Stokes' ₹14.5 crore transfer to Rising Pune Supergiant in 2017), but the selling price is also just ₹50 lakh short of the all-time IPL buy record of ₹16 crore (Yuvraj Singh to Delhi Daredevils in 2015).
