AWARDS

Quinton de Kock, MOM
: I was a little bit cooked. But I had to get out there and get on with the job. It was just a bit of frustration that came out. The last couple of games just the way I was getting out. It was just a bit of release. I didn't know what I was thinking, I was just keeping it in. After our first three overs I thought they were going to struggle to get to our score. But they came out and assessed the game. Shreyas came out and the rest of the guys played well. I thought Stoinis would defend it easily. But after the third one I thought the game is done. But Evin proved catches win matches.

KL Rahul:  I should probably get paid more for games like this. We had missed games like this, in this season. Haven't been many games that have gone down to the last ball, maybe some which went to the last over. Happy to be on the other side. Could easily have been on the losing side and have gone back home thinking we lost due to some poor cricket. Good way to finish the last game of the league season. Credit to both teams to make such a brilliant game of cricket. Can't say we held our nerves better because it was a matter of three runs. For Stoinis to execute those plans in the last two balls to get us the win, was brilliant. We batted well, started well with the bat. We knew that KKR would come hard at us, credit to them as they kept playing good shots. The only talk during timeouts was to back your best balls. The minute we went away from the plans was when it became easier for the batters. Good learning for us. Wins like these help to keep the team together. I was a spectator today in the last few overs. He (De Kock) was striking the ball so crisply and cleanly. What we lacked in some of the games were that the guys who were having good days weren't winning us games. Guys getting 30s and 40s had to get us 80s and 90s, and that's exactly what he did.

Stoinis:  (On bowling the final over) Initially, my feeling was I should have bowled through the middle. At the start of the over you play a bit to the conditions, a bit to the long boundary, a bit to what the batter wants to do. As things get worse, you go towards what you like to bowl and what works for you. That's a learning for me. Feel more comfortable going for the straighter yorker. We're always aiming at something - at the feet of the batters, at the stumps, at the cones in practice. We're giving him Man of the Match (Lewis for the catch). The conference happens which is good, everyone wants to have an input. But you have to bowl what you believe is your best ball.

Shreyas Iyer, KKR captain:  I am not feeling sad at all. That was one of the best games of cricket I have played. The way we should our character and attitude was simply outstanding. I love the way Rinku got us till the end but unfortunately couldn't time it when two balls were remaining, he was really sad. I was hoping he could finish the game for us and could have been the hero, but still played a fantastic knock and I am really happy for him. When we came in, I never thought it would play this way because it was dry and the grass wasn't that wet. I thought there would be little help for the spinners but once they started going. LSG took on the bowlers and got a par total. It was a do or die situation for us, even after losing two wickets in the PowerPlay our mindset was to go for the chase and take it close as possible and put them under pressure. It was a volatile season for us, we started great but lost five games in a row and I personally feel we did a lot of chopping and changing, we had to do that because of the niggles and form, but we also got to know the players like Rinku. The vibe has always been positive in the dressing room and we never hit the panic button. I have built a really good relationship with Baz (McCullum) and he is someone who is calm and composed when the situation is going out of the way, you can go and talk to him at any point of the game. He's got that aura when he walks around the players and never judges the players, all of us are equal for him.

Avesh returns

KKR 79/3 in 9 overs: Bishnoi wraps one on Billings' front-pad and lets out a huge shout in an appeal. The umpire negates his shout and LSG opt for a review. Replays suggest Umpire's Call on wickets and the decision is upheld. Just four runs from the Bishnoi over.

KKR 75/3 in 8 overs: Gowtham to Rana. OUT! He miscues a slog straight to long-off. Rana's brilliant counter-punch sees a sudden halt.  Sam Billings in at 5. Avesh Khan into the attack

KKR 10/2 in 3 overs: Mohsin continues to run-in with seething pace. He hits the deck and beats Tomar's outside-edge by a whisker. OUT! Tomar's sluggish debut ends with a horrid shot, straight to KL Rahul at mid-on. Mohsin deftly sets in the leg-cutter that undoes Tomar's timing. Shreyas Iyer in at 4. Mohsin goes wide of the popping crease to push a fuller delivery to Iyer. Shreyas hits down the ground and the ball hits the non-striker to deny a probable boundary.

Abhijeet Tomar c Rahul b Mohsin Khan 4 (8b 1x4)

KKR 8/1 in 2 overs: Holder rolls a ball outside the off-stump and Tomar gets off the mark with a glide past backward point for FOUR. Just the boundary off the over as Holder constricts Tomar's bat.

LSG 149/0 in 17 overs: Southee hits the length on return and KL Rahul unleashes a cheeky ramp to beat the short fine-leg fielder for FOUR. Iyer seems to be blank at the moment, certainly out of options.

LSG 140/0 in 16 overs: de Kock premeditates with a shuffle to the off-side and unleashes a stellar sweep for SIX over deep fine-leg. 100th IPL six for de Kock. Varun fends short and de Kock waltzes it over mid-wicket for another gorgeous SIX! Short and width on offer, and de Kock slams it past deep cover for another FOUR. LSG 68/0 in 9 overs: Russell hits the hard lengths and the batters exchange strike with a couple of singles. Short ball and de Kock hammers it away over mid-wicket for a massive SIX.

Andre Russell into the attack

LSG 57/0 in 8 overs: Varun to continue. A quick slider outside off-stump probes KL Rahul to waft his bat at it but is beaten convincingly. Varun overpitches and Rahul stifles the bowler with a stunning drive down the ground for FOUR and that's FIFTY for LSG. More misery for Varun as he oversteps to concede a free-hit. Varun stuns de Kock with a fiery seam-up delivery that springs off the surface.

LSG 38/0 in 5 overs: A close shave! de Kock tries to be a bit cheeky against Umesh but almost ends up nicking one to Billings. Miscues a pull off the next ball but it lands safely. Riding his luck here, is de Kock. Immaculate timing sees Rahul wrist a maximum over long leg. Southee is left sprawling on the grass as the ball trickles down to the fence. KKR has looked a bit laid back on the field tonight.

MATCH PREVIEW

Lucknow Super Giants has one foot in the Indian Premier League playoffs and when the K.L. Rahul-led team takes on Kolkata Knight Riders at the DY Patil Stadium on Wednesday, it would be aiming to seal its spot in the top-four.

Currently placed third with 16 points, Lucknow lost its last two games - against Gujarat Titans and Rajasthan Royals - and captain Rahul admits “there is a bit of pressure” going forward.

In their last two outings, Lucknow batters have struggled in the Powerplay and the team will largely depend on Rahul and Quinton de Kock to regain their touch. While the middle-order is anchored by Deepak Hooda, Krunal Pandya and Ayush Badoni need to be consistent.

READ:

For the Knights, too, it is a must-win match. However, even if it wins against Super Giants, KKR can only make it to the playoffs if both Royal Challengers Bangalore and Delhi Capitals lose their games against Gujarat Titans and Mumbai Indians, respectively.

But keeping the calculations aside, KKR aims to defeat Lucknow and for that, it has its hopes pinned on the all-round abilities of Andre Russell. With Ajinkya Rahane ruled out of the tournament due to an injury, KKR’s top-order depends on how Shreyas Iyer and Nitish Rana fare against Lucknow pacers - Avesh Khan and Mohsin Khan.

In the absence of Pat Cummins, Umesh Yadav and Tim Southee will spearhead KKR’s bowling, while the spin duo of Sunil Narine and Varun Chakravarthy needs to be in their element.
