Tim David's cameo helped Mumbai Indians beat Delhi Capitals.   -  SPORTZPICS

Hello and welcome to Sportstar's LIVE coverage of IPL 2022 Match 69 between Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals from the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

Right then, we have our four playoff teams. GT, RR, LSG AND RCB. Delhi had their fate in their own hands but fatal mistakes on the field ultimately cost them a place in the playoffs. Pant dropped a simple catch of Brevis and then did not review a caught behind appeal against Tim David. Shardul Thakur let go of a couple of tough chances as well. All in all, a disappointing day in the field. MI though end on a high. They seem to have found a power-hitting finisher in Tim David. Dewald Brevis showed his prowess too. All in all, a good game for MI.

- END OF CHASE -

MI need 5 off 6 balls. Khaleel to bowl the 20th. Ramandeep on strike. Khaleel starts with a no-ball! Beamer, the ball slipped out. Ramandeep hits the free hit for four!  MI have beaten DC and RCB are through to the playoffs!

MI 155/5 in 19 overs: Nortje into the attack.  Can he conjure some magic? Ramandeep thinks not as he drives the first ball for four. Tilak is caught behind off the fifth ball! Here's Sams. Nine runs including a dot off the last ball.

MI 146/4 in 18 overs: Shardul. David has launched the third ball over long-off for six. What a cameo this is proving to be, and to think he was caught behind first ball! He follows it up with another mighty six. He holes out in the end but the damage has been done. Goes for a 11-ball 34! 15 runs and a wicket.

MI 131/3 in 17 overs: Khaleel returns. Tilak innovates, moves away to the off side and ramps it over fine leg for four. David now slaps a drive through covers for four. He ends the over with a six. A win for MI, playoff spot for RCB in sight. Mumbai Indians need 29 runs in 18 balls

MI 114/3 in 16 overs: Nortje is back into the attack. Tilak says 'hang on, I am there too' and smacks this length ball over the long-off fence for six. Lbw review against Tilak next ball. Not given. Rishabh reviews this time. That's pitching outside leg! DC lose a review. David finishes the over with another four. 13off it.

MI 101/3 in 15 overs: Shardul back into the attack. He strikes! Brevis has chopped on for 37! Big moment. TIME OUT! Tim David is next. Dear God, David would've been caught behind first ball but Pant did not review! David rubs salt in the wound with a last-ball six.

MI 92/2 in 14 overs: Kuldeep to bowl out. Four singles. 4-0-33-1. Could've had two but was not to be. Mumbai Indians need 68 runs in 36 balls

MI 88/2 in 13 overs: Axar. Brevis skips down the pitch and slams this over long-on for six. 10 off Axar's third.

MI 78/2 in 12 overs: Kuldeep continues. Ishan brings up the fifty stand with a single. There's the breakthrough. Ishan looks to launch this into the Mumbai night sky but is deceived in the air and miscues it to Warner. He goes for 48. Here's Tilak. Oh dear! Pant, what have you done! Drops a simple chance off Kuldeep's bowling. Brevis gets a reprieve! 4 runs and a wicket.

MI 74/1 in 11 overs: Kishan's teeing off now. He slog sweeps Axar for another six. Another good over for MI, 12 off it.

MI 62/1 in 10 overs: Mumbai Indians need 116 runs in 66 balls. Kuldeep after the break. Brevis getting a move on as he clobbers a six and a four,  the latter thanks to a misfield by Thakur at deep mid-wicket. Ishan ends the over with another six as MI collect 18.

TIME OUT

MI 44/1 in 9 overs: More spin. Axar to bowl his first. Tidy stuff. Four singles. MI batters struggling on a two-paced track.

MI 40/1 in 8 overs: Kuldeep Yadav into the attack. Kuldeep nearly gets his man but Thakur has parried this Brevis sweep over the fence for six. Tough chance but you got to hold on to those in a crunch match. 7 from it.

MI 33/1 in 7 overs: Here's Marsh again. Six from it including a last-ball four for Ishan. Much-needed runs.

MI 27/1 in 6 overs: GONE! Nortje ends Rohit's misery. He offers a simple catch to mid on. Dewald Brevis in at 3. 2 runs and a wicket.

MI 25/0 in 5 overs: Mitchell Marsh to roll his arm in the PowerPlay. Fabulous over from the Aussie all-rounder. Only 1 off it.

MI 24/0 in 4 overs: Shardul Thakur into the attack now. Ishan has top-edged a pull over fine leg for six. Rohit's off the mark at last, with a single. 8 from the over.

MI 16/0 in 3 overs: Khaleel continues. What an excellent over from the left-armer. Just one from it. Lovely little battle between him and Rohit.

MI 15/0 in 2 overs: Nortje from the other end. Ishan unfurls a glorious cover drive for four. He launches the third ball over mid-off for four more. Kishan now pulls the fifth ball over deep square for six. Big over for MI. 14 from it.

MI 1/0 in 1 over: Khaleel Ahmed into the attack. Ishan and Rohit start the chase. Great start from Khaleel. Just one off it.

- START OF CHASE -

DC 159/7 in 20 overs: Ramandeep up for the final over. Thakur whips one past mid-wicket but the fielder in the deep cuts the ball down to deny a boundary. Ramandeep angles one across and Shardul misses out. Similar lines but the bowler concedes a wide this time. Ramandeep pushes the ball wider and Thakur holes out to David at long-on. He fails to get the desired timing behind the slog as the ball zipped away from his arc. Kuldeep gets a single first ball and more importantly gets Axar on strike. Ramandeep feeds into the slot and Axar slams the ball straight back for a SIX.  Ramandeep slides one into Axar's pads as the batters take a single off the final ball. Mumbai opt for a review.

Shardul Thakur c David b Ramandeep Singh 4 (5b)

Bumrah picks 15 wickets for the seventh successive season.

DC 148/6 in 19 overs: A Bumrah lightning shatters Powell's stumps! No one, I repeat, no one would have kept that delivery from hitting the stumps. Powell clears his front-leg for a slog but Bumrah lands a inch-perfect yorker right on the base of the stumps. Shardul Thakur is the new man. Bumrah foxes Thakur with a slower-bouncer and the ball flies off the outside-edge to beat the outstretched hand of a diving Brevis at point. Bumrah nearly had two in two there. He bowls out with figures of 4-0-25-3.

Boom boom special.   -  SPORTZPICS

DC 142/5 in 18 overs: A couple of singles into the over, Axar pummels Sams down the ground for a SIX with a solid shot off the slot.

Sams replaces Ramandeep

DC 133/5 in 17 pvers: Bumrah needles Powell with a fiery yorker. He gets a single off a leg-bye that slides down leg. Axar is content to keep Bumrah off the wickets with a solid push. A single follows to deep point. Bumrah bangs one short and Powell hammers it handsomely over mid-wicket for SIX!

Bumrah returns

DC 125/5 in 16 overs: Ramandeep starts off with a loose, shorter delivery and Pant whips it to deep mid-wicket. An excellent save from Meredith denies a boundary for the DC skipper. Powell slaps a back of a length delivery to long-on for a single. Ramandeep pushes the ball full and wide and Pant carves it over point for FOUR. A couple of wides to follow.  A wide delivery outside-off and Pant dances down and gets an outside-edge over short-third for FOUR. Another wide goes down leg. Slower-ball and Pant swivels to pull the ball over fine-leg for SIX! Mumbai have offered Delhi just what they were looking for. Or maybe not? Pant nicks one sheepishly to Kishan! Ramandeep comes around the wicket and rolls his fingers for a ball outside the off-stump. Pant attempts a rash heave but checks his short off the last second to get a faint toe-edge.

Rishabh Pant c †Ishan Kishan b Ramandeep Singh 39 (33b 4x4 1x6)

Ramandeep Singh into the attack

TIMEOUT

DC 106/4 in 15 overs:
Sams cuts off pace first-up and Powell pushes the ball to the cover fielder.  A wide down leg follows. Slower-ball and Powell clips it straight back to Sams' finger. He jerks out of it but has seemingly recovered quickly. The batters sneak in two runs. Sams feeds into Powell's toes and a leading-edge fetches him a single. Seven runs from the over.

Sams returns

DC 99/4 in 14 overs: Meredith pins Powell with three sharp deliveries. He gets a single. Meredith comes around the wicket once again to Pant. A tails in a sharp delivery towards the off-stump, forcing Pant to block. Pant attempts to drill a fuller ball past mid-off but fails to get the desired timing on it.

Meredith replaces Shokeen

DC 97/4 in 13 overs: Markande tosses up outside-off and Powell miscues the hit over mid-off and clears the fence by a few inches for SIX. Four more as a length ball springs past Powell's slog-sweep and the keeper down the ground. Mumbai's gone off the boil slightly over the last few overs.

Most T20 sixes in 2022:

Rovman Powell - 42*

Tim David - 41

Nicholas Pooran - 39

DC 84/4 in 12 overs:
Shokeen tosses up to the slot and Powell unleashes his big levers to blast the ball over mid-wicket for SIX. Shokeen follows up with a quicker delivery off a good length. Powell charges and slog sweeps Shokeen for another SIX over mid-wicket.  Shokeen comes around the wicket and finds the outside-edge that slips through Bumrah at short-third for FOUR.

DC 64/4 in 11 overs:
Short from Markande and Pant drags the ball down to deep point for a single. Powell is struggling against the guile of the two spinners. He gets off strike with a single to mi-wicket. In the air and a chance goes begging at cover as Pant waltzes the ball sharply past Shokeen for two runs. Markande fends short once again as Pant pulls the ball to long-on and a misfield from Tilak Varma concedes FOUR runs.

DC 55/4 in 10 overs: Pant shimmies down to push the ball towards long-on for a single. Shokeen keeps Powell on his toes with a sharp delivery that bounces sharply. Loud shout as Shokeen drifts one in sharply as Powell attempts a tame sweep and misses. The bowler prompts an uninterested Rohit for a review and they go up for it. Replays suggest umpire's call on impact and wickets and the decision is upheld. Shokeen strays to the pads and Powell works it through mid-wicket for a single. Just three runs coming off that over.

Hrithik returns

DC 52/4 in 9 overs: Sarfaraz attempts a slog sweep and it falls before the long-on fielder. Pant slices one to Bumrah at short-third and gets off strike. Markande to Sarfaraz. OUT! A tempting leg-break outside the off-stump and Sarfaraz has a waft at it. Kishan takes a sharp catch as a faint-nibble off the bat curtails the batter's stay. Rovman Powell in at 6.  Markande begins with a sharp delivery that turns back to Powell who leans forward to defend. Powell's off the mark with an outside-edge that rushes past first-slip for a couple of runs.

Sarfaraz Khan c †Ishan Kishan b Markande 10 (7b 1x6)

DC 48/3 in 8 overs: Pant and Sarfaraz exchange strike with singles. Meredith comes around the wicket to Pant and attempts to tuck him up with a couple of balls that slide in.  A hint of room on offer and Pant squeezes his bat hard at it. The ball gushes past Kishan off the thick outside-edge for FOUR.

Meredith into the attack

DC 41/3 in 7 overs: Sarfaraz and Pant pick up a couple of singles. Markande drops a tad short and Pant pushes it past point for two runs. Four runs off the over.

Markande replaces Shokeen

DC 37/3 in 6 overs: A hint of room and offer and Shaw mistimes a drive past mid-off for two runs.  A crackerjack from Bumrah and Shaw has to go! Bumrah follows Shaw with a stifling bouncer. Shaw arches back and tries to evade its line but gets a toe-edge flying straight to a diving Ishan Kishan behind the stumps. This is Boom Boom at his best. Sarfaraz Khan in at 5. Short from Bumrah and Sarfaraz tonks it over fine-leg for a massive SIX!

Prithvi Shaw c †Ishan Kishan b Bumrah 24 (23b 2x4 1x6)

DC 29/2 in 5 overs: Shokeen comes around the wicket to Shaw. The offie wafts one in and Shaw unleashes a blistering sweep through mid-wicket for FOUR. Pant leans forward to defend a delivery that slides towards his front-pad. A quicker one rushes in towards the middle-stump and Pant pushes it away off his backfoot. Another quicker delivery hits Pant's pads. He misses a sweep off a fullish length and the wicketkeeper goes up in a loud shout but the umpire negates his appeal. Rohit isn't interested in a referral. That looked close.

Shokeen replaces Sams

DC 24/2 in 4 overs: Shaw gets a single down the ground as Bumrah begins with a length ball. Mitch Marsh on strike. In the air and taken! Marsh falls first ball.  Bumrah sends in a seed in the fine channel outside-off, probing a push from Marsh and gets the outside-edge. The ball skims low beside first-slip but Rohit's sharp dive helps him complete a fine catch. Pant in at 4. He gets off the mark with a single down to square leg. Bumrah attempts to fire on in the blockhole but Shaw does just about enough to push it towards mid-off.  Quick change-up from Bumrah as he pushes a quick bouncer past Shaw.

Mitchell Marsh c Sharma b Bumrah 0 (1b)

Jasprit Bumrah into the attack

DC 21/1 in 3 overs: Sams tails the ball in from length to Shaw who drives it straight back. Dot.  Slower-ball in the slot and Shaw makes room to thump the ball over long-off for SIX! Sams follows up with a sharper delivery onto the stumps and Shaw works it through the on-side for a single. Sams slides one down towards leg and the ball hits the pads as Warner aims for a scoop but misses. Sams to Warner. GONE! Back of a length delivery outside off and Warner slices it straight to Bumrah at short-third. 100 T20 wickets for Sams as Warner perishes cheaply in a high-pressure game.

David Warner c Bumrah b Sams 5 (6b 1x4)

12/0 in 2 overs: Shokeen begins with a low full-toss to Warner who pushes it to long-off for a single. Shaw gets a single with a flick down to deep mid-wicket. Shokeen tightens his line to Warner and prompts a push to mid-on. Shokeen tosses one up and Warner goes aerial over mid-on to find FOUR runs.

Spin from the opposite end with Hrithik Shokeen.

DC 6/0 in 1 over: Sams hits back of a length first-up and Shaw punches it towards mid-off. Sams angles one further across and beats Shaw's wafting blade outside the off-stump. Sams tucks one back in and Shaw pushes it straight back to the bowler. Four dots as Sams follows up with a quick bouncer which flies over Shaw's shoulder to the keeper.  Back of a length and Shaw heaves the ball through mid-wicket to open his account with a FOUR. Short and Shaw whips through square this time. A good effort from the fielder denies a boundary. Two runs to finish the first over.

Daniel Sams up with the new ball.  Shaw takes strike.

Action begins.... The umpires walk out to the middle and the MI huddle scatters out to the field. Prithvi Shaw and David Warner open for Delhi.

The rains relent after a brief spell at the Wankhede. Covers are coming off and the match is expected to have a normal 7:30pm start.

Mumbai Indians Playing XI: Ishan Kishan (wk), Rohit Sharma (c), Daniel Sams, Tilak Varma, Ramandeep Singh, Dewald Brevis, Tim David, Hrithik Shokeen, Jasprit Bumrah, Riley Meredith, Mayank Markande

Delhi Capitals Playing XI: Prithvi Shaw, David Warner, Sarfaraz Khan, Mitchell Marsh, Rishabh Pant (c) (wk), Rovman Powell, Axar Patel, Shardul Thakur, Kuldeep Yadav, Anrich Nortje, Khaleel Ahmed.

With a rain scare at the Wankhede, Delhi has got its task cut out as Mumbai has opted to bowl first. Warner and Shaw will have to be at their fiery best in setting up this innings.

TOSS: Mumbai wins toss, opts to bowl

Rohit Sharma: We are going to bowl first. Good track. Wanted to have a score in front of us. Crucial for us that we restrict them and then bat freely. We were inconsistent throughout the season. The talk in the group is that we need to come together. There will be a few eyes on us, so we got to come up with the best. Two changes. Brevis in for Stubbs, Shokeen for Sanjay.  -- No Arjun Tendulkar this season as well.

Rishabh Pant: We would have bowl as well but we lost the toss. Prithvi comes in for Lalit Yadav.

Rohit Sharma and Rishabh Pant at the centre for the Toss.

A light drizzle at Wankhede as the captains walk out for the toss.

6:55PM IST: A Tendulkar debut after 15 years?
The latest visuals have Arjun mark his run-up.

Pitch Report from Danny Morrison: This is the middle pitch so the boundary is even on both sides. Love the red soil to pieces because it does offer bounce. Spinners do love it here. Little bit of live grass on it, but it's about getting the lengths right. Pace bowlers have been bowling Test match lengths to get people out. We do have a couple of wrist spinners today.

Ajit Agarkar, Delhi Assistant Coach: The experience has been good although I've lost the habit of being in the dressing room. Understanding youngsters' mindsets has been good. (Dealing with players' injuries and illnesses) All teams have challenges, if you have good back-ups you can manage. Injury and loss of form is likely with a long tournament. But we still have the result in our hands which is great. With two months, players have gotten to know each other and have created a good, symbiotic environment. They have followed the processes, have done well in the last two games, and hopefully will do it again today.

Riley Meredith speaks to the broadcaster: We are up for this, trying to ruin another team's final hopes. It's frustrating as the team has had a bad year, but we have one more game to go. We'll give it our all. Frustrating to not get a game in the first half but it's nice to be back. Rohit is always due, everyone's up and about. The morale has been surprisingly high despite the losses

MATCH PREVIEW

Delhi Capitals (DC) will need to come out all guns blazing in a do-or-die clash against Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Wankhede Stadium here on Saturday.

A win in this last group stage match will guarantee a playoff spot for DC. The side will go level on 16 points with Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), but DC’s superior net run rate (+0.255 to RCB’s -0.253) will prove decisive. If DC loses to MI, RCB will grab a playoff spot.

DC enters this crucial fixture with two wins on the trot. Australian Mitchell Marsh has fired with bat and ball, while Shardul Thakur picked up the ‘Player of the match’ award for his four-for in the previous outing, against Punjab Kings (PBKS).

READ: Capitals' experienced players will have to step up against Mumbai - Ponting

Opening batter David Warner may have fallen for a duck against PBKS, but as the team’s highest run-scorer this season, the Australian southpaw remains a big threat.

Among the bowlers, left-arm wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav (20 wickets) has been impressive, as has left-arm speedster Khaleel Ahmed (16 wickets).

MI, meanwhile, is out of playoff contention. MI slipped to a three-run loss to Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Tuesday, despite a 95-run opening stand between Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan.

With its season going nowhere, MI does not have much at stake. The RCB team and fanbase, however, will cheer their every move.
