Welcome to the highlights of the IPL 2022 match between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Punjab Kings at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. This was Santadeep Dey , bringing you all the action as it unfolded at the venue.

RCB 155/9 in 20 overs: GAME. SET. MATCH. Punjab Kings romp home with a 54-run win over the Royal Challengers Bangalore.

RCB 147/9 in 19 overs: Mayank backtracks to take an outstanding catch. Harshal departs. Punjab one wicket away from an emphatic win. Lucky escape! An outside edge sees the ball run away to the fence. Even Siraj himself is surprised.

RCB 142/8 in 18 overs: Arshdeep mixes it up to concede only five off the over. He has now bowled the most yorkers at the death - 26*.

RCB 137/8 in 17 overs: Harshal picks up a boundary again as he throws his bat at a fuller delivery on fifth stump from Chahar. Brar pouches a blinder at the ropes near midwicket. Times his jump to perfection, lands just inches away from the boundary cushion, throws it into the air, loses balance but recovers well to complete the catch.

RCB 130/7 in 16 overs: Shahbaz picks out the fielder at backward point. Rajapaksa is the man again. Rabada gets his second wicket. RCB gets a lucky boundary off the last ball as a thick outside edge flies past the 'keeper.

RCB 120/6 in 15 overs: Arshdeep sets Karthik up with his variations. After a bouncer, fuller delivery and slower ball, the pacer surprises the stumper-batter with a yorker. Karthik squeezes this out to Rajapaksa at short third. Harshal saunters in.

Strategic timeout

RCB 118/5 in 14 overs: Karthik takes his front foot way across the off stump and sweeps the slower ball from Rishi to the fence. Rishi bowls out with 4-0-36-2.

RCB 109/5 in 13 overs: Chahar keeps things tight in this over. Only three off it.

RCB 106/5 in 12 overs: Brar gets rid of the Big Show! A full ball and Maxwell doesn't manage to get enough power behind this shot. Arshdeep and Brar also join in with the thigh-five. Shahbaz comes to the middle.

RCB 104/4 in 11 overs: Chahar has been greeted with a four again. Maxwell is enjoying his time in the middle. Chahar has a few words for Maxwell but the Australian dismisses it all with a smile. Two wides in that over. Out comes the thigh five as Patidar picks out Dhawan at long-on. Chahar can be heard screaming, "Oh yes, c'mon yes..." into the stump mic. DK in the middle.

RCB 95/3 in 10 overs: Slashed through point! After two singles and a double, Maxwell rocks back and gets a boundary. The partnership has gone past fifty.

Strategic timeout

RCB 84/3 in 9 overs: Patidar looks to go for another six over long-on but miscues. Fortunately for Bangalore, it lands just short of Shikhar. Patidar, however, isn't one who gives up easily. Goes all the way again and it has hit an ad board and... ouch! seems like it has injured somebody on the rebound. Hope he's okay. The next ball is a boundary as well.

RCB 71/3 in 8 overs: Maxwell unleashes the reverse sweep, playing with the turn. There was no stopping that the moment it came off the bat. Patidar shows some aggression, bludgeoning a six towards the larger part of the ground. Maxwell's switch hit's gone out of the park. Six to end the over.

RCB 53/3 in 7 overs: Rishi to continue. Maxwell and Patidar keep the scoreboard ticking. A superb effort from the Punjab skipper in the deep saves a run.

RCB 44/3 in 6 overs: Maxwell and Patidar, not looking to take any undue risks, score only three off this over.

RCB 41/3 in 5 overs: Has du Plessis nicked this? There was a faint sound but the umpire doesn't seem to be interested. Jitesh has signalled the 'T' straightaway. UltraEdge shows a huge spike and the umpire has to reverse his decision. Rishi Dhawan strikes! Lomror has been promoted and he responds with a six off the second ball. Got him! Rishi Dhawan is pumping his chest as Lomror launches one straight into the hands of Shikhar at midwicket. Maxwell is in.

RCB 34/1 in 4 overs: Kohli has found the fielder again... he has asked for the review though. Did it come off the thigh pad? He looks to be in a bit of discomfort. Replays suggest there was a bit of glove on it as the ball carried to Chahar at fine leg. Kohli curses his misfortunes as he walks back, mumbling something as he looks up at the heavens. Patidar walks in.

RCB 31/0 in 3 overs: Brar to continue. du Plessis has hammered the short ball right past the bowler for four. Kohli dances down and lofts a wristy pickup shot over long on. Six, it is.

RCB 19/0 in 2 overs: Arshdeep induces a false shot from du Plessis straightaway. However, he managed to sneak a quick single. Bowled short, there is a little bit of shape as Arshdeep beats Kohli. Ah, Kohli winds back the clock with an exquisite cover drive for four next. Whips another delivery across the line through midwicket for four.

RCB 7/0 in 1 over: Kohli reaches 6500 IPL runs with a single off the first ball. du Plessis finds the gap at cover to get off to a glorious start with a four. A cat has briefly disrupted play as it sits licking its paws near the sight screen. Yes, a cat. Back with live action... Brar bowls a wide down leg.

Bangalore's Kohli and du Plessis make their way to the middle. Brar to open the bowling.

PBKS 209/9 in 20 overs: Harshal pitches it way off the tramline. Wide. A little fumble but Karthik holds on to a miscued ramp shot from Livingstone. How many runs is that catch worth? Rishi holes out to Maxwell now. Amid all the big-hitting, Harshal has conceded just a little over 30 runs and taken four wickets. Rabada comes to the crease. Rahul Chahar is found short of his ground when the bails light up. Run out off the last ball of the innings!

PBKS 205/6 in 19 overs: Hazlewood is being sent on a leather hunt again. 4, 6, wd, 4, 2, 6, 1. Livingstone is making a mockery of the bigger pockets at Brabourne. The Australian, meanwhile, has now bowled the most expensive spell of IPL 2022 - 4-0-64-0. This is also the pacer's worst T20 figures.

PBKS 181/6 in 18 overs: Harshal coming round the wicket for the right-handed Livingstone. Brar has smoked this out of the park. Bowled right in the slot and this has disappeared in the blink of an eye. And off the very next ball, he has been caught behind. The umpire hesitates before raising his finger but Karthik knew it straightaway. Harshal slips near the popping crease. That's a nasty fall but somehow he seems to be okay. Maxwell, generally as safe as houses, has tipped it over the bar. Six!

PBKS 166/5 in 17 overs: Jitesh falls to Hasaranga's wrong'un now. Sneaks under the bat and rattles the woodwork. Brar comes to the crease.

Strategic timeout

PBKS 163/4 in 16 overs: Hazlewood is back to have a go at the new man in, Jitesh. Jitesh, however, emerges on top to finish the over with two back-to-back fours through midwicket and then extra cover.

PBKS 152/4 in 15 overs: Job well done! Harshal takes the pace off and Mayank is left searching for answers. However, the next two deliveries have been pumped to deep backward point and third man. WICKET! Mayank, fed with the slower short ball, spoons it to Hasaranga at point.

PBKS 142/3 in 14 overs: Shahbaz is looking to keep the ball outside Livingstone's arc. However, the batter premediates the move off the third ball, shifts towards the offside and reverse-sweeps past short third. He follows that up with a maximum over long-on. That's huge.

PBKS 130/3 in 13 overs: Harshal replaces Hasaranga. A half-volley has been driven through cover by Livingstone. He keeps strike with a single off the last delivery.

PBKS 123/3 in 12 overs: A mighty blow from Livingstone! Comes down the wicket and hits it over long-off for six. Not Hazlewood's day... He was cantering along to time his slide and ends up making a mess of it all near the rope. Agarwal gets a boundary as freebie.

PBKS 108/3 in 11 overs: It is hotting up at the top of the Purple Cap leaderboard, with the top three spots being taken up by the wrist spinners - Yuzvendra Chahal, Hasaranga and Kuldeep Yadav. Hasaranga is one wicket away from the top berth. He keeps things tidy in this over, conceding only 3.

PBKS 105/3 in 10 overs: Shahbaz breaks the tempo. He pitches it wide outside off as he spots Bairstow skipping down the track again. The Englishman miscues the slice to Siraj at backward point. Four off the over.

Strategic timeout

PBKS 101/2 in 9 overs: RCB has gone back to Hasaranga, who has picked 17 wickets in the middle overs in IPL 2022. After two dots, Livingstone passes the strike to Bairstow, who has moved up to 61 off just 25 balls. Hasaranga induces a false shot from Bairstow, who gets an inside edge that rolls down to the fence. Punjab continues to ride its luck.

PBKS 95/2 in 8 overs: Shahbaz to bowl his first. He gets one to hold its line after bowling one wide of the off stump. Livingstone responds well, stepping out and hammering it over the bowler's head for four.

PBKS 86/2 in 7 overs: Hasaranga continues to do the good work in middle overs. Rajapaksa gets an outside edge as his compatriot's googly gets the better of him. Harshal rushes in from short third to complete an excellent catch. He falls for 1. Livingstone comes to the crease.

PBKS 83/1 in 6 overs: Siraj starts off with a fiery yorker to Bairstow and appeals for LBW but it is turned down. Faf agrees to go upstairs for the review. But there is an inside edge and to add insult to injury, the ball has run away to the boundary for four runs. Low full-toss outside off and thumped to mid-off for a dot ball. Bairstow continues to go ballistic. Length on off and Bairstow and tonked this over long-on for half a dozen runs. Over the waist full toss next ball and Bairstow pulls this over square leg but doesn't take the single as he wants to face the free-hit. He doesn't capitalise on it however, done in with a slower one. Dot ball. Full on middle and flicked over square leg for a maximum. Bairstow brings up his fifty off 21 balls. Another six to end the over, this is pulled flat over mid-wicket.

PBKS 60/1 in 5 overs: Maxwell into his second over. Dhawan charges down the track first ball of the over, gets to the pitch of the ball and clears the long-on boundary with a maximum. A dot and leg-bye follow as Maxwell goes slightly shorter. Bairstow pushes thorough mid-wicket for a couple. The ball goes off the stumps and almost to the boundary but the batters don't run as they have run too far into the crease. OUT! Dhawan misses the sweep and the ball goes straight through and into the stumps. He departs for 21(15b 2x4 1x6).

PBKS 50/0 in 4 overs: Hazlewood continues after his 22-run first over. Full around off to Dhawan and he drives along the ground straight to mid-off. Slightly shorter but still on the fuller side and Dhawan hacks across the line but finds the fielder at short mid-wicket. Two dots and a four. Full again on off stump and Dhawan thumps it past the bowler's left to find the long-on boundary. Dhawan is hurried into the pull with a short one but the connection is good enough for a couple at square leg. Cut behind point for one and fifty is up for Punjab Kings in 3.5 overs. The second fastest team fifty in this IPL. Yorker on leg to end the over and Bairstow gets an inside edge trying to dig it out.

PBKS 43/0 in 3 overs: A Dhawan special, this! Rocks back and scythes one past point to welcome Siraj, who is playing his 100th T20 game. Bairstow utilises Siraj's pace to let one soar over the larger pocket of the ground. Six!

PBKS 30/0 in 2 overs: Hazlewood to bowl from the Club House End. Back of a length, and Bairstow has slapped this through midwicket for four. Does one better with two sixes over deep midwicket - Bairstow's 49th and 50th - right off the meat of the bat. Four more! It is all going Punjab's way right now. Bairstow gets a thick edge that slips past third man. 22 off the over.

PBKS 8/0 in 1 over: Bairstow showing some intent early on. He shimmies down and nudges the ball towards deep square to get off the mark with a single. The fifth delivery holds its line and Bairstow connects. This has been hit straight down the ground to bring up the first six of the day.

Bairstow and Dhawan will open for the Kings. Maxwell to get things rolling for the Royal Challengers.

Royal Challengers Bangalore: Virat Kohli, Faf du Plessis (c), Rajat Patidar, Glenn Maxwell, Dinesh Karthik (wk), Mahipal Lomror, Shahbaz Ahmed, Wanindu Hasaranga, Harshal Patel, Mohammed Siraj, Josh Hazlewood

Punjab Kings: Jonny Bairstow, Shikhar Dhawan, Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Mayank Agarwal (c), Jitesh Sharma (wk), Liam Livingstone, Rishi Dhawan, Kagiso Rabada, Rahul Chahar, Harpreet Brar, Arshdeep Singh

Mayank Agarwal : Not a bad toss to lose. Want to put runs on the board and put pressure on them. Harpreet Brar comes in for Sandeep Sharma. Left-arm spinner against them will be a good matchup. We have been playing good cricket but it's been a bit on and off.

Faf du Plessis:  We'll have a bowl. The wickets are getting better. Toss isn't making much of a difference. We'll play the same team.

Royal Challengers Bangalore opts to bowl

"The dimensions are mostly the same all-round although one side is bigger - almost 90 meters. Average score batting first here has been 177 but a winning total has been in the 190s. It is an absolute belter. Batters like it. It's hard, there is a nice covering of grass. There will be some swing upfront due to the extreme humidity these days," reckons Matthew Hayden.

The IPL 2022 playoffs race is heating up, and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) is in the thick of it. Faf du Plessis' men come into Friday night's match at the Brabourne Stadium on the back of two successive wins, while three losses in its last five games have left its opponent Punjab Kings (PBKS) playing catch up in the race for the last four.

While Virat Kohli's indifferent form — vs SRH, he bagged his third golden duck in the last six T20 innings —  is a major talking point, it is the match-up between Dinesh Karthik and Arshdeep Singh that could decide the outcome of the battle between these two effective death bowling sides.

Karthik’s scoring rate of 14.7rpo against pace in IPL 2022 is the highest for any batter with 200-plus runs this season. While so far in eight innings, left-arm seamer Arshdeep's economy rate of 7.25 at the death is the best for a fast bowler with a minimum of 50-plus balls in the last four overs.

In their first match of the season, Arshdeep had bowled a parsimonious 18th over to keep Karthik and Virat Kohli quiet when RCB was going at nearly 10 an over.

Meanwhile, RCB’s bowling has been boosted by the addition of Josh Hazlewood, who has continued to excel with the new and the old ball. In a combined eight overs against Chennai Super Kings and Sunrisers, Hazlewood conceded only 36 runs and picked three wickets. His face-off with Liam Livingstone, who is striking at an astounding 210.28 against pacers, will be intriguing.

Punjab’s batting, though, has the worst run rate (6.89) of all teams against spin bowling so far, which RCB’s spin triplets Wanindu Hasaranga, Shahbaz Ahmed and Glenn Maxwell could exploit. Maxwell, RCB's sixth bowler, has picked four wickets at an economy rate of under 7. PBKS openers have to target him, especially if he is introduced in the PowerPlay.

The Brabourne Stadium has been a high-scoring venue, with teams going at 9.16rpo. But it's the bowling might of both teams that could have the final say.
