Sunrisers Hyderabad beats Royal Challengers Bangalore by five wickets

What a win from Sunrisers as they have jumped to the top four with a positive net run-rate and RCB's NRR has slipped into negative. We need to wait till the last day of the league phase to wait for the final qualifications. A chase of 121 wasn't going to boomerang and although Hyderabad lost wickets, Jason Holder ensured Sunrisers reach the target in 14.1 overs, thereby denting RCB's run-rate and that means Punjab and Rajasthan, to an extent Kolkata remain in the hunt for a playoff berth. Come Monday, it's a must-win for RCB and DC.

SRH 115/5 after 14 overs: Jason Holder uses his long levers as he smokes Navdeep Saini for 19 runs, despite Abhishek Sharma falling while trying to go for the win.

SRH 96/4 after 13 overs: Udana strikes to remove Williamson and RCB is staging a fightback. However, Holder negates the good work with a six that hit the windsreen of the car placed just over the deep mid-wicket fence.

SRH 87/3 after 12 overs: Washington Sundar keeps a lid on the scoring as he gives just five from his third over. There is no rush and Hyderabad needs to finish this as quickly as possible.

SRH 82/3 after 11 overs: There's the flight from Chahal that has outdone Saha as the bowler lures Saha for stepping out, the batsman was no where close to the ball and De Villiers whips off the bails. Top stuff from Chahal, just that Bangalore don't have enough runs to defend.

SRH 74/2 after 10 overs: Saha picks a boundary and Udana tests Williamson with a couple of bouncers and the batsman leaves it happily. SRH on cruise mode.

SRH 67/2 after 9 overs: Superb from Yuzvendra Chahal as he he gives just three from his second over and Bangalore has dried up the boundaries. There was an instance of a run-out and Chahal thought he had his finger tips on the ball as Saha drove him and Williamson was out of his crease. But the third umpire ruled Not Out due to inconclusive evidence. Nevertheless, Williamson was back in his crease.

SRH 64/2 after 8 overs: Kane Williamson joins Saha and Isuru Udana bowls an excellent over as he gives just four runs.

SRH 60/2 after 7 overs: Unwanted shot from Manish Pandey as he plays against the spin of Yuzvendra Chahal and throws his wicket away. He was supposed to close this chase but the rush of adrenalin got the best of him.

SRH 58/1 after 6 overs: Saha tonks Sirag out of the stadium and Sunrisers have got the required start. Up and running in a small run chase and the sonner they get to the target, the better the net run-rate. Bangalore will take a beating if Hyderabad don't blow away the run chase.

SRH 46/1 after 5 overs: Manish Pandey is on a mission as he flicks Morris to the mid-wicket fence and then delicatley places a down the leg ball to the fine-leg fence. Bangalore in desperate need for wickets.

SRH 31/4 after 4 overs: Saha gets into the act as he sweeps Sundar over backward square for a boundary. Bangalore needs wickets in cluster to make a match out of it.

SRH 22/1 after 3 overs: Manish Pandey gets going as he starts with a boundary and then smokes Navdeep Saini for a maximum ovver deep square leg. A run-ball target and a couple of big overs, RCB will be out of this game.

SRH 11/1 after 2 overs: Washington Sundar strikes and he removes David Warner. RCB off to a great start but they need wickets in cluster.

SRH 4/0 after 1 overs: Both Warner and Saha are off the mark and Morris starts with an excellent first over, giving just four runs. Bangalore needs wickets.

Right then we are back for the chase and it will be David Warner along with Wriddhiman Saha - fresh from a superb knock against Delhi Capitals. Chris Morris with the new ball and it will be Warner on strike.

End of Innings: RCB 120/7 after 20 overs

What a performance by the Sunrisers bowlers as they attacked in packs to restrict RCB for a modest total of 120/7. Sandeep Sharma picked Virat Kohli for a record seventh time in IPL and from then on, Bangalore never got any momentum. The fall of ABD just made matters worse and this has been an incredible show by the men in Orange. They should get this and the sooner they finish, the net run-rate takes a boost. Watch out as there is likely a shuffle in the points table. Sans Mumbai, and Delhi's loss, it's a mad race for the playoffs berth. Back for the chase in a while.

RCB 116/7 after 19 overs: Jason Holder strikes twice and he finishes with 4-0-27-2. Sunrisers have tamed the famed RCB batting line-up.

RCB 111/5 after 18 overs: Natarajan takes an excellent return catch to pack off Sundar but Sandeep Sharma lets off Gurkeerat - although it was a tough chance. Top stuff from the Tamil Nadu pacer.

RCB 106/4 after 17 overs: Sandeep Sharma finishes his sell 4-0-20-2 and what a fine spell this has been. He didn't allow the Bangalore batsmen to tee off.

RCB 99/4 after 16 overs: Manish Pandey almost pulled off a stunner to dismiss Sundar but the ball was grounded. Rashid Khan finishes with figures of 4-0-24-1

RCB 93/4 after 15 overs: Sundar gets hold of one as he dispatches Holder to the backward point boundary. But the bowler comes back to concede just anothet three runs.

RCB 86/4 after 14 overs: Time-out! Top stuff from Natarajan as he gives just four from his two overs that he has bowled and Sunrisers has the game under control. David Warner has been excellent with the changes and the field placement has been spot-on. Bangalore need to kick up the ante.

RCB 83/4 after 13 overs: Quality bowling from Nadeem as he keeps it tight and Washington Sundar along with Gurkeerat Singh Mann have a job in their hands.

RCB 76/4 after 12 overs: Incredible Rashid strikes and he dents Bangalore further by getting the well-set Philippe who hits straight down the throat of Manish Pandey at deep mid-wicket.

RCB 71/3 after 11 overs: Big wicket as Shahbaz Nadeem gets Ab de Villiers. What a moment in the game as De Villiers decides to attack and smacks Nadeem over long-on for a maximum and then tries to go for another one but time fails to get the required distance and Abhishek Sharma at deep cover.

RCB 61/2 after 10 overs: Ab de Villiers gets a move on as he rocks on his backfoot and smacks Rashid through the mid-wicket area as the ball races away to the fence.

RCB 52/2 after 9 overs: Sunrisers has kept a lid on the scoring but De Villiers and Phillipe are building a partnership and most importantly haven't given it away.

RCB 42/2 after 8 overs: Rashid Khan into the attack and expect his tricks to bamboozle the Bangalore batsmen. Ab de Villiers will eye to take the attack to the opposition.

RCB 38/2 after 7 overs: Philippe gets a much-needed boundary as Shahbaz Nadeem introduced into the attack, drops Ab de Villiers early.

RCB 30/2 after 6 overs: Good start by T Natarajan as he gives just a single from his opening over.

RCB 29/5 after 5 overs: Huge wicket as Sandeep Sharma gets the big fish Virat Kohli.. He has dismissed Kohli for the seventh time in IPL as the Bangalore skipper drives straight into the hands of Kane Williamson at short extra cover. Bangalore in trouble as Ab de Villiers walks in.

RCB 24/1 after 4 overs: Virat Kohli is out in the middle very early after Devdutt Padikkal departed. Philippe meanwhile fetches a boundary with a slay over mid-off.

RCB13/1 after 3 overs: Bolwed! Sandeep Sharma strikes early and he castles Devdutt Padikkal. Poor shot from the opener as he heaves across the line, misses the ball as it crashes into the stumps.

RCB 8/0 after 2 overs: Padikkal gets going with a cracking boundary with a punch through mid-off as Holder gives five from his opening over.

RCB 3/0 after 1 over: Philippe and Padikkal are off the mark and it's a decent start by Sandeep Sharma.

Alright we are all set for Match 52 and it will be a cracker of a game, considering the fact that Bangalore would aim to seal a playoff berth, while Hyderabad will eye to win the encounter to stay alive. Out come the Bangalore openers Josh Philippe and Devdutt Padikkal. It will be Sandeep Sharma with the new ball.

The Preview

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) has made heavy weather of a task that should have ideally been a walk in the park. A week ago, with 14 points from 10 games, it needed a solitary win to make the playoffs for the first time since 2016.

But two crushing defeats to Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians (MI) have made fans squirm in their seats. On Saturday, when it meets Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in Sharjah, it will look to put an end to this nervous wait.
