Shardul Thakur picked 40-plus wickets in the last two Ranji Trophy seasons.

Shardul Thakur, along with leg-spinner Pradeep Sahu and batsman Armaan Jaffer, were released from the Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) squad on May 6. The move means that the players cannot take part in the ongoing IPL unless they are called back. Miffed about not getting enough matches, Shardul tweeted:

"Will play a semifinal t20 game tomorrow for my club payyade sc..playing a game after 2 months..ipl has done wonders .. Certainly"

The tweet was later deleted and there hasn't been any comments from KXIP regarding it.

KXIP brought Mumbai-based pacer ahead of the 2014 season. He has played just one game for the team ever since: against the Delhi Daredevils in 2015, in which he picked a wicket and gave away 38 runs in three overs.

Shardul would've hoped to play more games for his IPL side this year after picking more than 40 wickets for Mumbai in the last two Ranji Trophy seasons. In the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy T20 tournament, he picked eight wickets in as many games with an economy rate of 6.97.
