Moeen Ali is an esential part of England's team in all three formats.

Moeen Ali, England's off-spinner, has excluded himself from the Indian Premier League (IPL) auction to take place on February 6, owing to concerns over workload. He had initially inducted himself in, thereby declaring his availability for this year's IPL, scheduled to run from April 9 and May 23. But a heavy domestic season in England at around the same time will be followed by heavy winter international schedule for the England players, and since Moeen is a regular member of England's team in all formats, his participation in the IPL may be an additional burden that he has now removed himself from.

He had arrived at the decision after consultation with England's director of cricket Andrew Strauss, according to ESPNcricinfo . Strauss had reportedly left the decision to Moeen, but had expressed his concerns about the volume of cricket he will have to wade through.

England, in the middle of the Test series for the Basil D'Oliveira Trophy, will play the fourth and final Test against South Africa on 22 January in Centurion, before embarking on a number of limited overs' matches against South Africa in the build-up to the ICC World Twenty20 in India in March. They will then host Sri Lanka and Pakistan for a total for seven Tests, 10 One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and two Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is).

They will then tour Bangladesh in September before arriving in India for a full tour.
