Chasing almost 10 runs per over is no easy task, and Shreyas Iyer stepped up for Delhi Daredevils as it clinched a thrilling two-wicket victory over Gujarat Lions on Wednesday.
This might have been a dead rubber -- what with both teams already out of contention for the playoffs -- but it was not short of thrills as 392 runs were scored in just under 40 overs.
After the Lions put in 195 on the board in the first innings, Daredevils went past the finish line with Iyer top-scoring with 96 (57) as he agonisingly fell short of a well-deserved century.
His innings contained 15 hits to the boundary and two hits into the crowd before being castled by Basil Thampi in the last over with still seven runs needed from four balls.
Regardless, Delhi Daredevils won the match with two balls to spare with Iyer pocketing Rs. 1 lakh for his match-winning knock that earned him the Man of the Match.
