Even as Suresh Raina recalled his under-19 days at the Green Park, he looked ahead and assessed Gujarat Lions’ chances against Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League match here on Thursday.
“No team has yet qualified. It means the tournament has been close so far. All the games are important and so is tomorrow’s. We are at a stage where many teams have good chances and that makes the IPL very interesting. It is going to be the first match here under floodlights and we are in the same boat. We have to work hard on our game and not take things for granted,” said the Gujarat Lions skipper.
He became nostalgic about the venue. “I have played a lot of cricket here. I remember my under-19 days, the time spent in the sports hostel. I have a lot of memories attached to the Green Park.”
The pitch, Raina observed, should be a good one for the match. “It is going to be challenging for both the teams. We have a young side and have to give our best. I don’t carry the worries of the previous match. I have learnt it from seniors Rahul Dravid and Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Hope we have a good contest.”
