The Indian Premier League can throw the spotlight on unexpected journeymen.

This time, Mayank Markande, a young leg-spinner from Punjab, has grabbed attention with his successful exploits for Mumbai Indians.

The young leggie from Punjab has scalped seven wickets from two games so far and is currently the purple cap holder.

Stunning the batsmen with an excellent wrong ’un, Markande has earned praise from the seniors.

And Kolkata Knight Riders' spin ace Piyush Chawla is the latest to join the list. “I have seen him for the first time. I think he is doing very well and I wish him luck,” Chawla said during a promotional event here on Friday.

KKR's chinaman bowler Kuldeep Yadav believes that the spinners with variation are quite a handful in the shortest version of the game and are more successful.

“As an off-spinner, if you're getting turn and you have quite a good variation that really makes a difference in T20 format. That's why the spinners are very successful in this format,” Yadav said.

It’s still early days in the tournament, but the cricketing circle is already in awe of Mumbai Indians’ newest spin recruit.
