Weekly Digest: An overview of this week's IPL action

The 10th edition of the Indian Premier League kicked off with Yuvraj Singh making a 25-ball 62 to guide the defending champion, Sunrisers Hyderabad, to a 35-run win against last year's runner-up, Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Sunrisers Hyderabad v Royal Challengers Bangalore

The opening match of the 10th edition of the Indian Premier League saw defending champion Sunrisers Hyderabad beat a high-flying Royal Challengers Bangalore by 35 runs. With Yuvraj Singh making a 25-ball 62, the David Warner-led side had the last laugh.

 

Rising Pune Supergiant v Mumbai Indians

In the end, it was down to the two finishers — M. S. Dhoni and Steven Smith. And, the Rising Pune Supergiant skipper Smith kept it cool and simple to hammer a knock of 84 as his side thumped Mumbai Indians at the MCA Stadium in Pune. Chasing a mammoth total of 187, Smith came out all guns blazing to guide his side to victory.

  Gujarat Lions v Kolkata Knight Riders

It was Lynn-sanity in Rajkot as Kolkata Knight Riders rode on Chris Lynn's 91 and Gautam Gambhir's 76 to thrash Gujarat Lions by 10 wickets. Chasing a challenging target, Lynn and Gambhir smashed a record 184-run opening stand, taking KKR to victory.

 

Kings XI Punjab v Rising Pune Supergiant

In Indore, Kings XI Punjab started its campaign with a six wicket win over Rising Pune Supergiant. Glenn Maxwell and David Miller guided Punjab home with a crucial 80-run stand for the fifth wicket. After a winning start, Pune failed to keep the momentum going.

 

Royal Challengers Bangalore v Delhi Daredevils

He lost his father a couple of days ago, but that didn't stop Rishabh Pant from playing the IPL. And, the youngster kept his personal loss behind to hammer a knock of 57 to help Delhi Daredevils come close to victory against Royal Challengers Bangalore. Though in the end, the Delhi side lost the game by 15 runs. The cricketing fraternity, however, praised Pant for his dedication.

 

Sunrisers Hyderabad v Gujarat Lions

Afghanistan spinner Rashid Khan impressed with his bowling as he took three wickets for just 19 runs in his four overs to help Sunrisers Hyderabad get the better of the Gujarat Lions. Khan, who was the star player of the match, ensured that his team registered a massive nine wicket win over Gujarat.

 

Mumbai Indians v Kolkata Knight Riders

Mumbai Indians finally registered its first win of the season as it defeated the Kolkata Knight Riders by six wickets in a nail-biter at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday. Nitish Rana played the star innings for Mumbai smashing 50 runs. And, Hardik Pandya scored 29 off 11 balls, taking Mumbai past the finish line.
