Ishan Kishan revealed that his blistering knock, which guided Mumbai Indians to a comprehensive 102-run victory over Kolkata Knight Riders, at the Eden Gardens was an outcome of the team's strong support for him.

The 19-year-old Ishan, who played his best Indian Premier League knock, a 21-ball 62 that snatched the match away from KKR, was thankful to the MI team management for believing in him despite his brief lean patch.

“It’s always good for a youngster to bat up the order. When your skipper and the franchise is backing you, it’s just about playing your game,” Ishan said on Mumbai Indians’ biggest win of the season on Wednesday night.

“During the time-out coach (Mahela Jayawardene) said ‘Just be yourself, back yourself. We needed some good hits today.' Rohit (Sharma) bhai also said, ‘You can hit well, just look at the ball and get with the flow.’ I just had to look at the ball till the last moment and keep it going.”

Ishan said his familiarity with Kuldeep Yadav allowed him to pick the chinaman bowler and hit him for four consecutive sixes. “Kuldeep’s deliveries go away from me, but he loves to bowl the googly at me. I've played him earlier. I knew he was trying to get the ball outside the off stump.

“My target was that if I get the ball in my arc, I would hit it out of the park.”

Ishan also acknowledged his Jharkhand team mate M.S. Dhoni’s guidance. “I also get lots of tips from Dhoni bhai. He keeps telling me that I can take time. I feel confident when these guys talk to me,” said Ishan.
