Ireland made to wait for Test debut by day-one wash out

There will be no play on the first day of Ireland's Test debut against Pakistan following persistent rain in Malahide.

Ireland will not make their historic Test debut until Saturday at the earliest, after day one of their match against Pakistan was washed out.

Persistent rain in Malahide meant the historic first ball, scheduled to be bowled at 11:00 local time on Friday, had to be delayed.

The umpires inspected the pitch throughout the course of the day but, with the weather failing to improve, opted to abandon day one following an assessment of the surface at 15:00.

Ireland were granted full member status by the International Cricket Council last June and will no doubt be disappointed the wait for their first Test outing has been delayed.
