Jaipur is likely to host the Indian Premier League (IPL) auctions on December 17-18 for the next edition of the cash-rich league.

While the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is yet to make an official announcement on the matter,  Sportstar  understands that the franchises have been informally told about the venue and the dates for the auctions recently.

Earlier, there were speculations that Goa could host the auctions, while Mumbai was being considered the second option. But Jaipur, it is believed, has been chosen over Goa because of its connectivity with other cities.

While the venue for the IPL auction is decided, the franchises are still not sure where will the tournament be held. With the dates of the general elections yet to be announced, there is not much clarity whether the tournament will be held in South Africa or the UAE and the dates.

With the World Cup in May, the league is likely to begin on March 29 and go on till the second week of May. "We ideally want to get a clarity on the venue before getting into the auction. That will help us plan accordingly and get our choice of players," one of the franchise bosses told this publication, adding that the Board, hopefully, will announce the venue well before the auction.

However, none of the IPL officials were available for a comment.
