Before starting the recruitment process, BCCI selection committee chairman MSK Prasad spoke to CAC members Kapil Dev and Anshuman Gaekwad for suggestions.

After selecting Ravi Shastri as the head coach of the Indian team last week, the Kapil Dev-led Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) had made it clear that they should also have a say in choosing the support staff.

But as per the new Board of Control for Cricket in India constitution, it is the national selection committee which needs to conduct the process of quizzing candidates for the support staff roles. However, panel chairman MSK Prasad revealed that he spoke to CAC members Kapil and Anshuman Gaekwad last Sunday for suggestions before starting the process.

Prasad also batted for the inclusion of CAC chairman in the support staff recruitment process from next time.

“I had an interaction with both Gaekwad and Kapil. They expressed their opinions. Had they been present here, it would have been a different story. We have definitely taken their views,” Prasad said.

“In times to come, if the CAC chairman is also part of the committee, it would be wonderful. We respect the Supreme Court’s decision but it would be a gesture from our side that CAC chairman is also included because they have conducted interviews for head coach. So, there will be continuity and consistency,” Prasad said.
