Virat Kohli has cleared the Yo-Yo test and will lead India in Ireland and England.

India captain, Virat Kohli, who underwent a fitness test at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) on Friday, has cleared the Yo-Yo test. Kohli, who suffered an injury on the neck during an Indian Premier League (IPL) fixture, had to let go his county stint with Surrey.

But now, with the star batsman comfortably achieving scores above 16.1, the India skipper is all set to lead India in the T20 series against Ireland and then in the England tour.

While sources in the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have confirmed to Sportstar that Kohli - who looked quite comfortable during the test in the morning - has ticked all the boxes, there is a buzz that Ambati Rayudu has not cleared the fitness test.

Sources indicate that Rayudu’s score was lower than the permissible 16.1.

It is learnt that other cricketers who appeared in the test - Suresh Raina, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Kedar Jadhav - have cleared all the parameters.

Jasprit Bumrah, Siddharth Kaul, Washington Sundar, Yuzvendra Chahal, Manish Pandey were also seen taking the test.

If Kohli clearing the test is a big relief for the side, Rayudu — who had a great outing in the Indian Premier League (IPL) with Chennai Super Kings - is likely to be dropped from the squad for the England limited-overs side, sources hinted.

On Friday morning, Kohli could be seen sweating it out at the training arena for a long time along with Dhoni and Raina. Under the watchful eyes of the team’s fitness trainer, Shankar Basu, and other NCA staff, Kohli underwent all the required fitness tests.

For the last couple of years, the BCCI has made Yo-Yo tests compulsory for the international players and now, it is learnt, that the team management wants to raise the bar from 16.1 to 16.3.

Incidentally, pacer Mohammed Shami failed the Yo-Yo Test just before the recently concluded Afghanistan Test and was replaced by Navdeep Saini. Youngster, Sanju Samson too could not clear the test and was left out of India A’s squad for England tour.
