J. Suchith celebrates after dismissing Rohan Kadam in the opening match of KPL at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.

Rain played spoilsport as the opening game of the 2019 KPL ended in a washout at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on Friday.

Bengaluru Blasters and Mysuru Warriors had to share the points as only 13 overs of play were possible. The skies opened up shortly after 8 p.m. and although the rain was not heavy, it was persistent.

The match was abandoned just before 10 PM with Bengaluru Blasters 88 for three in 13 overs after having been put in to bat.

In the little action that did take place, J. Suchith stood out. The left-arm spinner, who during the rain break was seen in conversation with former Australian chinaman bowler Brad Hogg, claimed all three wickets to fall, finishing with three for 13 from his three overs.

Suchith first had B.R. Sharath caught in the ring on the off-side for 13 as the batsman sought to cut. The other opener, Rohan Kadam, briefly entertained the crowd during his 20-ball-23, striking three fours and a six. But he was caught on the long-on boundary as he went after Suchith.

Bengaluru captain Jonathan Rongsen was the third man to fall, top-edging a sweep to be held at short fine-leg. Nikin Jose remained unbeaten on 28. The 18-year-old, who has impressed for Karnataka at U-19 and U-23 level, played a couple of neat inside-out drives off Amit Verma.

He also smoked the leg-spinner for a giant six over deep mid-wicket. Jose looked in good touch but the rain would have the final say.

Brief scores: Bengaluru Blasters 88 for three in 13 overs (Nikin Jose 28 n.o., J. Suchith three for 13) vs. Mysuru Warriors (match abandoned due to rain)
Points: Bengaluru 1, Mysuru 1.

Tomorrow's matches: Hubli Tigers vs Shivamogga Lions, 3 PM Ballari Tuskers vs Belagavi Panthers, 7 PM
