Much has changed for Shivamogga Lions. Last season, the franchise failed to win a single game in the KPL, finishing bottom of the table. This year, with a revamped squad and under new leadership, Shivamogga has stormed out of the traps.

On Sunday, Abhimanyu Mithun's men claimed their second win in two games, defeating Mysuru Warriors by 14 runs at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. Shivamogga had begun the season with a rout of Hubli Tigers on Saturday; this result, coming 24 hours later, was less emphatic but it will be no less satisfying.

Batting first, Shivamogga made 166 for seven in 20 overs, riding on Pavan Deshpande's 53. In response, Mysuru was bowled out for 152 in 19.2 overs, K.V. Siddharth's fine 77 (54b, 10x4, 1x6) going in vain.

Shivamogga's pace trio of H.S. Sharath, T. Pradeep and Mithun did the bulk of the damage, taking eight wickets among them. Mithun had D. Nischal caught at square-leg first ball before dismissing rival skipper Amit Verma for 14. Sharath struck twice in the sixth over, packing off Shoaib Manager and J. Suchith, to leave Mysuru reeling.

That the match went as deep as the final over was due entirely to Siddharth's valiant effort. The contest seemed finished when Mysuru was reduced to 41 for five in six overs, but Siddharth stood firm at one end even as wickets fell around him. Thirty runs were needed off the last 10 balls when Siddharth went after Sharath, leaving Mysuru 19 to score off the final over, with one wicket in hand.

Siddharth swung the first ball of T. Pradeep's 20th over to the deep mid-wicket boundary but was caught behind off the second.

Shivamogga now has four points from two matches while Mysuru has just one, from the abandoned opening fixture.
