Lehmann confident Warner and Hazlewood will play in first Test

Lehmann: He's been batting the last couple of days so I can't see a problem. I assume he'll bat, I haven't really spoken to the medical staff, but they normally come up to me if there's some sort of issue so we're expecting him to play.

Australia's Josh Hazlewood and David Warner

Australia coach Darren Lehmann expects vice-captain David Warner and seamer Josh Hazlewood to play in the first Test with Sri Lanka.

Opener Warner broke his left index finger during a 50-over tri-series with West Indies and South Africa in the Caribbean. He did not play in the three-day warm-up against a Sri Lankan XI, but Lehmann offered a positive update ahead of the opening match of the three-Test series in Kandy, which starts on Tuesday.

"He's been batting the last couple of days so I can't see a problem," said Lehmann.

"I assume he'll bat, I haven't really spoken to the medical staff, but they normally come up to me if there's some sort of issue so we're expecting him to play." Hazlewood also did not feature in the tour match, with plenty of focus being put on his workload. On right-armer Hazlewood, Lehmann added: "He's had a fair bit, he's been in the West Indies and played the two-dayer and had a good bowl there.

"And having a look at the Colombo wicket, it's probably not what we're going to get in Kandy, there will probably be less grass than that so we'll give him a bowl on the flatter wickets there. "He's fine and ready to go, we're just making sure he's right."
