Key highlights: India women vs Sri Lanka women, 2nd ODI

After being restricted to 219, India Women bowled out Sri Lanka for 211 to win the second one-dayer by eight runs.

Key highlights from the second ODI between the women's team of India and Sri Lanka at Galle.

5:14 pm: Deepti Sharma takes the last Sri Lankan wicket as India win the match by 8 runs and also the three-match series. After being bowled out for 219, the Indian bowlers did well to restrict the host batters to 211.

5:06 pm: OUT. Manshi Joshi gets her second wicket as she removes Nilakshi de Silva for 31. Sri Lanka 211/9 and now need 9 off 12. This is going down the wire.

5:00 pm: OUT. Rajeshwari Gayakwad has given India a wicket it so desperately needed. Prabodhani is out bowled for 7. Score: 207/8. Sri Lanka needs 13 runs from 18 balls now.

4:48pm:  Nilakshi de Silva hits two sixes in the 44th over to ease things for Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka is now 189/7 and needs 30 runs from 6 overs for a win. India will need those wickets, restricting the team is not an option for the team anymore.

4:36 pm: With two wickets in two balls from Poonam Yadav's over, the equation is slightly skewed in favour of India. Weerakkody was the first to fall and was run out by the bowler herself.  Yadav saw off Anushka Sanjeewani who offered a catch to Bhatia!! Sri Lanka is 167-7 after 42 overs.

4.26 pm: Weerakkody has started accelerating; Sri Lanka now needs 61 runs in 60 balls.

4.11 pm: Sri Lanka needs 81 runs in 75 balls; Sri Lanka 139-5.

4.10 pm: Shikha Pandey gets India the much needed breakthrough. Sri Lanka skipper Athapaththu is caught by Mansi Joshi for 57 (95); 4x8, 6x1).

4.01 pm: Siriwardene is run out for 49 (91) 4x6.

4.00 pm: Sri Lanka lose two quick wickets and is on the backfoot now.

3.38 pm: Sri Lanka women need 115 runs. Athapaththu completed her half-century off 75 balls. Sri Lanka 105-3 in 29 overs.

3:07 pm: Indian spinners Gayakwad and Poonam Yadav have stifled Chamari and Sashikala. Sri Lanka - 58/3 in 20 overs. Only 18 runs added in the last 10 overs.

Sashikala Siriwardene is the new batswoman.

2:36 pm: After the run out, Gayakwad works her magic with the first ball of her spell. She traps Dilani Manodara in front for 3. Chamari Atapattu, who looks fluent on 20 is struggling to stitch together a partneship. Sri Lanka - 41/3 in 11.2 overs.

2:13 pm: And one brings two... Confusion in the middle as new batswoman Nipuni Hansika is run out for nought by Rajeshwari Gayakwad. Sri Lanka - 21/2 in 6 overs.

2:08 pm: Sri Lanka loses its first wicket in its chase of 220. Mansi Joshi gets the breakthrough as PM Weerakkody is dismissed for 11. Sri Lanka - 17/1 in 5 overs.

Sripali Weekakkody ran through India's top order with the help of Udesjika Prabodhani. But Mithali once again proved her class with a patient half-century, her 51st of her career.

Her innings paved the way for the 20-year-old Taniya, batting for the first time in a ODI, to express herself out in the middle. The wicketkeeper-batswoman went onto top score with a knock of 68; studded with eight hits to the fence.

Hemalatha, who also made her debut earlier this week, added the finishing touches with a 31-ball 35.

1:16 pm: Four wickets in the final over, three for Jayangani. Poonam is stumped by PM Weerakkody as India is all out for 219 . A commendable recovery from the visitor after being reduced to 4-66 in the 23rd over. 

1:14 pm: Mansi's run-out in the penultimate ball of the innings. India - 219/9 in 49.5 overs.

1:10 pm: Two wickets in three balls! Shikha (15) and Hemalatha (35) are dismissed in the final over of the innings. Mansi Joshi and Poonam Yadav are out in the middle for the final three balls from Jayangani. India - 217/8 in 49.3 overs.

1:03 pm: Hemalatha strikes one over the rope to bring up India's 200!  India - 204/6 in 48 overs

12:53 pm: Spoke too soon as a century is not to be... Taniya is caught behind after a superb innings . She goes for a 66-ball 68 as Prabodhani adds a second wicket to her column. Shikha Pandey joins Dayalan Hemalatha (16) in the middle. India - 183/6 in 45 overs

12:42 pm: We could be witnessing something special here from Taniya. She has more than a run-a-ball now with her eighth boundary. Batting on 62 off 61 balls, one wouldn't put it past her to get a 100 at this rate. India - 170/5 in 43 overs

12:35 pm: FIFTY for Taniya in her maiden ODI innings! She has upped the ante in the last five overs with her free-flowing stroke-play. She brought up the milestone with her seventh boundary of the innings.  India - 154/5 in 41.3 overs

12:26 pm: Siriwardene has Mithali caught behind for 52! The 76-run stand between the skipper and the youngster comes to an end.  India - 142/5 in 38.5 overs

12:22 pm: FIFTY for Mithali Raj! The Indian captain with a resolute knock off 116 balls after the visitor was reeling at 36/3. India - 140/4 in 38 overs

12:08 pm: India recovers to cross the 100-run mark. Mithali leading from the front with a cautious 106-ball 43. 20-year-old Taniya Bhatia — batting on 22 — has provided good support to her captain at the other end. India - 109/4, 34 overs.

11:35 am: Mithali hits a fine boundary towards long on. She must stay at the crease to keep things going. Score: India- 78/4, 25.3 overs.

11:25 am: Deepti Sharma returns back to the pavilion after making 13 off 23. Ranaweera the bowler, herself takes the catch. FOW: 66/4, 22.3 overs. Gloveswoman Taniya Bhatia is the next batswoman in.

11:16 am: Mithali Raj survives a run out scare, as the third umpire passes his decision favouring the visitor.

11:01 am: Bad ball and rightly punished. A waist-high full toss has been tossed to the stands for a six by Deepti Sharma!

11:00 am: Athapaththu introduces spin now. Left arm orthodox spinner and former Sri Lanka skipper Ranaweera has been brought in and her very first ball is bang on target.

10:49 am: Mithali Raj trying to hold things together. She has faced 41 balls, but churned out only 12 runs.

10:40 am: Harmanpreet Kaur follows suit! Falls to Weerakkody. Kaur guides an easy catch to the bowler herself. FOW: 36/3, 11.4 overs. Deepti Sharma comes out to bat, now.

10:34 am: A poor display on the field by Sripali Weerakkody at third man costs Sri Lanka four runs. Nilakshi is not happy. India: 35/2, 11 overs.

10:25 am: Mithali Raj hits a wonderful cover drive off a pretty decent delivery from Prabodhani. FOUR! India- 28/2.

10:14 am: Harmanpreet Kaur to take charge of things now.

10:13 am: OUT! Punam Raut goes. Sripali Weerakkody makes no mistake this time and the batswoman completely fails to follow the ball as it went on to hit the woodwork. FOW: 18/2; 5.4 overs.

 

10:11 am: Weerakkody almost got Raut with a wonderful leg-cutter. The ball just breezes past the bat, to the keeper.

10:07 am: Skipper Mithali comes on to the crease.

10:06 am: GONE! Smriti Mandhana departs. An easy catch for Sugandika Kumari. Prabodhani lures Smriti to play the ball to Sugandika stationed at point. FOW: 18/1; 4.1 overs.

10:05 am: At the end of four overs, India stands at 18-0. Four boundaries in the last over. Sripali Weerakkody got battered by Mandhana.

10:00 am: India opts to bat and it would be Punam Raut and Smriti Mandhana to start things off.

India is currently presently placed fifth in the ICC Women's Championships standings, with New Zealand, Australia, England, and Pakistan above them. A win against the Lankans, would see India float into the top four.
