Mohammed Shami had had an altercation with a local youth over a motorcycle being parked in front of the gate of his apartment.

Having faced the might of the West Indians successfully, Indian speedster Mohammed Shami returned home to be abused by a group of local youths, who stormed his flat at the Jadavpur area near here on Saturday night.

The cricketer, who plays for Bengal in Ranji Trophy, lodged a police complaint against some youths who allegedly threatened him and abused his wife. The incident came to light after police arrested the three trouble mongers on Sunday based on the footage from the CCTV cameras installed in the residential complex where the cricketer stays.

According to the cricketer’s family, “On Sunday night an altercation took place between Mr. Shami and a local youth over a motorcycle being parked in front of the gate of his apartment in the Jadavpur Police Station area. Mr. Sami asked the youth to remove the motorcycle from the place so that he can park his car inside the premises,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (South Suburban Division) Badana Varun Chandra Sekhar said.

Elaborating on the incident, the Deputy Commissioner said that after a brief argument with Shami, the youth left the spot and came back with two of his accomplices. The group then manhandled the caretaker of the apartment where the cricketer is staying with his family. The group also rushed to his flat and hurled abuses at the cricketer and his wife.

“Three persons - Jayanta Sarkar, Swapan Sarkar and Shiba Pramanik - were arrested on Sunday following Mr. Shami’s complaint,” said Mr. Sekhar.

The three accused were granted bail by a city court on Monday.
