Bangladesh captain Mashrafe Mortaza receives treatment for a fractured thumb.

Mashrafe Mortaza will be sidelined for at least a month after fracturing his thumb during Bangladesh's latest defeat on its tour of New Zealand.

The Tigers are yet to win a match since arriving in the country in late December, New Zealand having wrapped up a 3-0 Twenty20 series whitewash in Mount Maunganui on Sunday.

That came off the back of the same outcome in the one-day international series in the final weeks of 2016.

Mortaza suffered the injury while bowling his fourth over of the match — which New Zealand won by 27 runs — the bowler struck on the hand while trying to stop a hard straight drive from Corey Anderson.

After treatment from physio Dean Conway Mortaza was unable to continue and Mosaddek Hossain was forced to step in.

"Mashrafe had an X-ray done immediately after the match and the report has confirmed a fractured right metacarpal," said Conway.

"Recovery is expected to take between four to six weeks and will be followed by a short rehab. The injured area will be put in a cast as he recovers."

Meanwhile, Tamim Iqbal also damaged his hand in the defeat but Conway confirmed there was no lasting damage and the opener's condition will continue to be reviewed.
