Mumbai Indians has bought the promising Sri Lankan youngster, Asela Gunaratne for Rs. 30 lakh during the IPL auctions in Bengaluru on Monday.
The young talent will feature for Mumbai Indians in the tenth season of the IPL. Mumbai's newly appointed coach, former Sri lankan batsman Mahela Jayawardene had suggested his name as he is already aware of Gunaratne's stylish batting techniques and his abilities to score big in crunch situations of the game.
Gunaratne played a huge role in Sri Lanka's 2-0 win in the T20 series against Australia. He was also the highest scorer in the series with 146 runs in two matches.
In the second T20 match, Gunaratne single handed took the game away from the aussies as he scored a blistering 84 of just 46 balls, smashing five 6s and six boundaries.
