Former South Africa paceman Makhaya Ntini has been appointed as Zimbabwe's new head coach in an acting capacity, while Hamilton Masakadza has been stripped of the captaincy amid a host of changes to the national team set-up.
A series of tweets from Zimbabwe Cricket on Tuesday outlined the extensive action taken following a board review of the team's performance at this year's World Twenty20.
Under the stewardship of experienced coach Dav Whatmore, Zimbabwe failed to make the Super 10 phase in India, a 59-run defeat to Afghanistan ending their participation in the tournament.
Whatmore has now been sacked, with Ntini, who claimed 390 wickets in 101 Tests for the Proteas, handed his first major coaching role.
Graeme Cremer will replace Masakadza as skipper on an interim basis and there are also new roles for ex-South Africa all-rounder Lance Klusener and Tatenda Taibu, a former captain of Zimbabwe.
Zimbabwe Cricket stated on Twitter: "@ZimCricketv board has terminated head coach Dav @dfwhatmore's contract with immediate effect. @MakhayaNtini takes over in acting capacity.
"@ZimCricketv board has appointed former captain Tatenda Taibu as convener of selectors. He'll also help in development and high performance.
"@ZimCricketv board has relieved Hamilton Masakadza of the captaincy of all three formats of the game. @GraemeCremer will act in the interim.
"Former SA international Lance Klusener has been named @ZimCricketv's new batting coach in a bid to strengthen senior men's technical set-up.
"Coaching & selection changes follow @ZimCricketv board's review of senior men's performance at 2016 ICC World Twenty20 tourney in India."
