With a target of 189 to chase Kane Williamson led from the front with an unbeaten 79, anchoring New Zealnd's chase.
However, wickets towards the end of the day threatened to put a spike in the home team's journey towards the finish line. Sri Lanka’s Dushmantha Chameera's (right) took four wickets for 45 runs. New Zealand ended the day on 142 for 5.
