Prayas Ray Barman, a little known leg-spinner from Bengal, made a big splash on the IPL scene after being picked up by the Royal Challengers Bangalore for Rs 1.5 Crore in the IPL player auction on Tuesday. Barman made his senior List-A debut for Bengal in September and picked up four for 20 in his first appearance in the Vijay Hazare Trophy (One-dayers) against Jammu and Kashmir.

The 16-year-old's exploits in the Bengal under-17 and under-19 teams are not well documented, but he caught the eye of the state selectors for being a good wrist-spinner and made his way to the senior team.

“I simply had no hope about any franchise bidding for me in IPL player auction. It is like a dream come true when I was picked up by Royal Challengers Bangalore,” Barman told reporters after news of his selection spread around.

“Despite the fact that I am a leg-spinner, my greatest cricket hero is Virat Kohli. It is great to think that I will be sharing the dressing room with the Indian captain,” said the excited youngster.
