Nepal's Sandeep Lamichhane, who is part of the Caribbean Premier League franchise Barbados Tridents, has had his US visa application rejected. While the reason is unknown, the leg-break bowler tweeted that he was "surprised" and left "speechless" by the visa rejection.

Lamichhane wrote on Twitter, "Today I visited @USEmbassyNepal to get the visa of USA for the upcoming @CPL 2019 tournament. Being a National Cricket Player representing my country in the various leagues since 2016 around the world, i got big surprise to see my visa got rejected."

He added, "I was smiling and I was literally speechless to see all this, having all the proper documents I got this surprise. Being a sportsperson, it's gonna be a bit hard for me to go and participate in @CPL for @BIMTridents."

Lamichhane is a regular in Nepal's national side and plays for T20 franchises all over the world. Melbourne Stars (Australian Big Bash League), Delhi Capitals (Indian Premier League), Lahore Qalandars (Pakistan Super League), Toronto Nationals (Global T20 League) are among the franchises the 19-year-old has played for.

Last month, India fast bowler Mohammed Shami initially had his US visa application to play for India against the West Indies in the USA and the Caribbean rejected due to his existing police record on charges of domestic violence and adultery. However, he was granted the visa after the BCCI CEO Rahul Johri wrote a letter to the US Embassy, stating his achievements for the country and provided the full police report about his marital discord with estranged wife Hasin Jahan.
