Sport equipment company Spartan Sports wants its ambassador Mahendra Singh Dhoni to use a coloured bat when he leads Rising Pune Supergiants in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL).

"Dhoni is more than welcome to use a coloured bat (in IPL). He is such an amazing role model, influential cricketer and kids look up to him," Cameron Merchant, the cricket manager at the Spartan Sports was quoted in Deccan Chronicle.

Only last week Andre Russell, playing for Sydney Thunder in the Big Bash League (BBL), was banned from using his black-painted Spartan bat as it left marks on the white ball.

"While it has not been proven conclusively that these came from Andre’s bat, Spartan will now be implementing extra measures to ensure there is no opportunity for this to occur in future games," read the statement on Spartan's website.

Coloured bats, according to Merchant, is allowed in T20 leagues across the world. Last year, Chris Gayle had a golden blade in BBL. And, Aiden Blizzard and Mitchell Johnson have used green and orange, respectively.
