Neha Tanwar has been selected in the India A team for the Bangladesh series.

When India women’s ‘A’ team squares off against Bangladesh in a One-day series next month, it will also mark the comeback of a supermom Neha Tanwar.

Yes, you read that right!

The Delhi-based Tanwar was a member of the Indian women’s team that played against the West Indies in 2011. She has also played against Australia and New Zealand. Known for her flamboyant batting style, Tanwar was considered the next big thing in women’s cricket circuit. But her international career came to an abrupt end.

In 2014, she quit the game following her pregnancy, drawing curtains on her international career after playing five ODIs and a couple of T20s for the Indian team.

After spending time with the family, Tanwar returned to domestic circuit a year and a half back, when she was picked by the Delhi side. “It is a great thing to be back. It would not have happened without the support from the family,” Tanwar had said then.

What looked like an impossible mission soon turned feasible as Tanwar started visiting the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru to attend women’s camps.

And that juggling between family and cricket has finally paid off for the 31-year-old.

Now, three years after becoming a mother, when the Women in Blue takes the field for the first One-dayer against Bangladesh in Hubli on December 2, Tanwar will be seen in action.

On Monday night, as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced squads for the Bangladesh series, Tanwar made the cut for the one-dayers. Young sensation, Jemima Rodrigues, has also been picked for the T20 matches. The Mumbai-based Jemima hogged the limelight by hitting a double century in BCCI U-19 women’s meet.

As first reported by  Sportstar  a couple of months ago, the BCCI has come up with an India A women’s side to strengthen women’s cricket in the country and this is the first time, the women’s ‘A’ team will play a series. Anuja Patil has been named the captain of both the one-day and the T20 sides.
